VILLAGE OF MEAD BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEET AUGUST 8
A Regular Meeting of the Village of Mead
Board of Trustees was held Tuesday, August 8 at the Village Office. The meeting was called to order at 6:02
p.m. Roll call showed the following
board members present: Chairman Havelka;
Trustees Felty, Guyle, Wielage and Wimer.
Also present were Clerk Moline, Utility/Maintenance Superintendent
Raver, Library Director VanAckeren and Library Assistant Moseman. Guests were Ed Schroeder, Craig Reinsch,
Kristi Kavan, Marty Hagemann, Angie Siske, Viki Miller and Paulette Mayfield.
A Budget Workshop was called at
6:05 p.m. Accountant Ed Schroeder presented
the proposed 10/1/17 through 9/30/18 budget.
Discussion was held by the board.
Regular session was reconvened at 6:50 p.m.
SCHEDULED
GUESTS: Angie Siske presented an
overview of 2017 income/expenses for the Mead Ball Association. Engineer Craig Reinsch
reported bids for the test/production
wells for screen and casing for the proposed well sites. The board accepted the bid from Grosch
Irrigation of $71,170.00 for test/production wells for screen and casing at the
proposed well sites 2A and 2B.
REPORTS: Police - The inspection report of the property
at 522 S. Elm St. was reviewed. A letter
was read from the homeowners seeking additional time to clear the
property. The board approved an
extension of the nuisance abatement until 9/11/2017 on the property at 522 S.
Elm St. Utility/Maintenance Superintendent - Raver
reported repair of several sections of concrete along Cedar St., options on
purchase of a skidloader, required purchase of a pump for the sewer system,
plan to pull and repair the grinder at the sewer plant next year, expressed
concerns at the lagoons, and complaint regarding drainage. Planning
Commission - The minutes of the July 24 Board Meeting
and permit issued were accepted. Permit
being: 17-16, Mark Hughes to remove a
detached garage. The board approved
Permit 17-17, Insulfoam to construct a
shelter. Discussion was held on swimming
pools without the required fencing.
Clerk to forward letters to homeowners not in compliance. Library Board
- The minutes of the July 19 Library
Board meeting were accepted. Clerk - Moline reported damage on the
chain-link fence at the park was reviewed by the installer.
UNFINISHED
BUSINESS:
Second reading of Ordinance No. 699, Water Rates was approved.
NEW BUSINESS: Bids were discussed for the purchase of a
skidloader. A radar speed sign from Elan
City for $2,735.00 was approved. Mead
Public Schools will share half of the cost for the sign.
The meeting
adjourned at 7:54 p.m.

Mead
Public Schools fall athletics began competition for softball varsity on August
19, with junior varsity beginning play on August 24 at Logan View; varsity
volleyball begins August 24 at Ft. Calhoun with junior varsity competition
beginning at home on September 7; varsity football plays August 25 at home,
with junior varsity playing their only game at Cedar Bluffs on October 9. Junior high volleyball plays their first game
on September 9 at home and junior high football starts September 5 with their
game at home.

you know a community member who is temporarily or permanently housebound, Mead Public Library can assist by delivering

Thank you to the Friends of the Mead Library
Foundation who provided root beer floats for the End of the Summer Reading
Party. Also, thanks to Friends who watered, weeded, and mulched the garden this
summer.
WANTED: The Village of Mead Library has an opening
for a member on the Library Board.
Please contact the library if you are interested in filling this
position. You must reside within village
limits.
BUILDING REQUIREMENTS
If
you are planning a building or demolition project you must have the project
approved by the Mead Planning Commission prior to beginning the project. There is a penalty fee assessed if the
project is started prior to approval of the permit application. If your project is located within the
commercial or industrial zoning districts, approval must also be attained from
the Mead Board of Trustees. The only
projects excluded are concrete projects, temporary pet kennels and accessory
buildings less than 150 square feet, although they must meet setbacks so
contact with the commission is required.
The
Planning Commission meets the fourth Monday of the month, excluding
December. If Memorial Day falls on the
fourth Monday in May the meeting is held the third Monday. Application forms may be obtained at the
Village Office or online at meadnebraska.net.
