VILLAGE BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEET DECEMBER 12

    A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees was held December 12 at 6:00 p.m. at the Village Office.  Present were Chairman Havelka; Trustees Felty, Guyle, Wielage and Wimer.  Also present were Clerk Moline, Utility/Maintenance Supt. Raver and Police Chief Carlson.  Guests were Matt Bratsburg, Rick Miller, Levi Durnal, Jim Halbmaier, Craig Jones, Cort Silliman and Cody and Jenea Sweeter.

    Havelka was re-elected Chairman.  The following appointments were made:  Police Chief/Zoning Administrator/Nuisance Enforcement Officer-Jerry Carlson; Clerk/Treasurer-June Moline; Utility/Maintenance Supt.-Nick Raver; Attorney-Bromm, Lindahl, Freeman-Caddy, Lausterer Law Firm; Accountant-Ed Schroeder; Engineer-Olsson Assoc.; Street Supt.-Julie Ogden; Bldg. Inspector-Terry Miller; Hearing Officer-Alberto Silva.  Approvals made were Bank of Mead-official depository for the deposit of village funds; Inspro-insurance carrier; Retirement Plan Consultants-401k Administrator; Wahoo Newspaper-official newspaper; method of posting of meetings at the Bank of Mead, Mead Post Office and Village Office; and members of the Planning Commission and Library Board are made by appointment by the Village Board of Trustees.  The following committees were created:  Common Facility Board-Wielage and Wimer; Municipal Board of Health-Havelka, Carlson and Mary Miller; Board of Adjustments-Felty, Havelka, Wielage, Wimer, and Planning Chair Weible, with Guyle as alternate.  A retainer for 2018 with Bromm, Lindahl, Freeman-Caddy, Lausterer Law Firm was approved at $350.00

   SCHEDULED GUESTS:  Planning Commission members Rick Miller, Matt Bratsburg and Levi Durnal entered into discussion regarding proposed amendments to the Zoning Regulations.  Jenea Sweeter requested amendment to Code 6-205 to permit chickens within the village.  Craig Jones, First National Bank, discussed guidelines for the interim construction loan for the water project.

   REPORTS:  Planning Commission-The minutes of the November 27 meeting and permits were accepted.  Building Permits:  17-21 Jeremy Harnish-construct deck; 17-22 Brooke Koehler-construct 4’ fence; and 17-24-Lee Feldhaus-place two trailers; Demolition Permit:  17-23 Lee Feldhaus-remove two trailers.  Utility/Maintenance Supt.-Raver reported well 92-1 test results; well concern; suggested code amendments and bids for decorative lamppost repair and rubber tires for the skidloader.  Police Chief/Nuisance Enforcement Officer-The Monthly Police Report and current nuisance abatements were presented.  Resolutions 17-06, 17-13 and 17-15 Nuisance Abatements were approved as meeting necessary guidelines.  Nuisance Abatement Resolutions 17-16, 17-17 and 17-18 were approved. Library-The minutes of the November 15 Library Board Meeting were accepted.  Action was taken to approve change of meeting date from the third Wednesday of the month to the third Monday of the month.  Clerk-Approval was granted for Moline to attend Clerk Academy in Grand Island on March 27 and 28.  Contact will be made with Troy Kadavy to create a website.

   NEW BUSINESS:  Action was taken to adopt Ord. No. 701, Chapter 8, Section 8-103, Municipal Property; Sale and Conveyance; approve applications to NE Liquor Comm. from Mead Days Assoc. to serve alcohol at the Mead Park during Mead Days on June 15,16 and 17 and Mead Volunteer Fire Dept. to serve alcohol at the Community Bldg. for a Wild Game Feed on February 17.  Motion to adjourn at 7:53 p.m.

 

TWIN RIVERS YMCA in Valley is looking for lifeguards and swimming instructors.

 

Step 1:  PRACTIC SWIMMING

You must be able to perform: 

100 yards of front crawl.

50 yards of head up sidestroke, breast stroke, and front crawl.

50 yards of frog kick on your back with no arms; and tread water for 2 minutes.

NOTICE:  Beginning in January 2018, regular meetings of the Mead Public Library Board of Trustees have been changed from the third Wednesday of each month to the third Monday of each month at 5:30 pm.

 

Monthly Schedule

Coffee Hour is scheduled every Tuesday at 10am.

Story Time for young children is offered every Tuesday at 4pm.  We read a book or two, make a craft and receive a take home snack.  Join us!

The Mead Public Library Board of Trustees will meet Monday, January 15, at 530pm in the Library.  Please consider joining our Board.  See Library staff or a current Board member for information.

The Lunch Bunch Book Club will meet Friday, January 19, 2018, from 1130am-1230pm.    



Special Events

Saturday, January 20, 2018 – Mead Library Friends of the Foundation will host their Annual Spaghetti Feed at Mead High School. Come support the Library during the Mead vs. Malcolm basketball games. Dinner will be served starting at 4pm and includes spaghetti with meat sauce, salad, breadstick, choice of homemade desert, and beverage. Preschoolers will eat free, the charge for K-6th grade will be $4.00, and for 7th grade through adult, the price will be $6.00. Free will donations to the Library will also be gratefully accepted.

Friday, January 26, 2018 – Come to the Library between 10am and 12noon for the Make Your Own Terrarium event. This activity is open to all ages, but an RSVP by 12noon on Friday, January 19, is required to ensure supplies will be available.

Wednesday, January 31, 2018 – The Library will be hosting children and stuffed animals between 6pm-7pm during Our Library is a Zoo. All ages are invited to bring a favorite stuffed animal to snuggle with during this special reading time. All participants will receive a prize to take home.

 

Thank You

Thanks to everyone who contributed items or bought holiday décor at the Annual Holiday Sale Fundraiser in December. Proceeds from the sale have been set aside for the Summer Reading Program. The community’s support of Mead Public Library is appreciated.

 

SNOW REMOVAL GUIDELINES

Any vehicle parked in violation of any traffic regulations or parked so as to obstruct the free movement of traffic or to cause a traffic hazard, or parked on any street or alley obstructing the removal of snow may be immediately removed upon order of the Police Department.  5-304

 

Following a snowfall of two (2”) or more, it shall be unlawful to park or stand any vehicle on any street within the Village of Mead until the street has been cleared.  5-311

 

All sidewalks within the municipality shall be cleaned within twenty-four (24) hours after the cessation of the snow.  8-201
