VILLAGE
OF MEAD BOARD MEETING HELD MAY 9
The Village of Mead Board of Trustees met May
9 at the Village Office at 6:00 p.m.
Present were Chairman Havelka; Trustees Felty, Guyle and Wimer. Absent was Trustee Wielage. Also present were Clerk Moline and
Utility/Maintenance Superintendent Raver.
REPORTS:
Police/Zoning Administrator/Nuisance Enforcement Officer -
The monthly Police Report and nuisances were discussed. Resolutions 17-05, 17-06, 17-07, 17-08 and
17-09 were adopted for nuisance abatements.
Utility/Maintenance Superintendent - Discussion was held on the
test hole, well size and drainage concern.
Action was taken to approve construction of two 250 gpm wells, transfer
Well 92-1 on back-up status for fire protection only once construction is
completed and reject recommendation by the engineer for a lift station for the
water project. A request to hook up to
village sewer from a resident was heard and discussion held on improvements for
water pressure at N. Third Circle. Planning
Commission - The minutes of the April 24 Regular Meeting and Permit 17-11
to Adam Miller to construct a garage and Permit 17-12 to Charmaine Payne to
demolish a garage were accepted. Jim
Halbmaier, Rick Miller and Jody Weible were re-appointed to three-year
terms. Library - The minutes of
the April 19 Library Board Meeting were accepted. Clerk - Moline presented an option for
credit/debit card payments, ability to email water/sewer invoices to account
holders, web design, pet licenses sold to date and list of meters requiring
maintenance.
NEW BUSINESS: A recommendation from the Special
Commission to ascertain that no monetary damages to vacate an alley and street
was accepted. Action was taken to adopt
Ordinance No. 695, vacate alley located in Block 2, Hanson’s First Addition to
the Village of Mead and N. Third Street east of Elm Street, west of vacated
Vine Street, south of Block 2 and north of Block 3, Hanson’s First Addition to
the Village of Mead. Interim financing and rate increase increments for the
water project were tabled, cleaning personnel for the park restrooms was
discussed and noted was Mead Clean-up Day on May 27 from 9 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
The meeting adjourned at 7:06 p.m.

LICENSE YOUR DOG / CAT
Please provide a current rabies vaccination
to the Village Clerk and she will issue your pet license. Cost is $4.00 altered, $6.00 intact.
The Village
Office will be CLOSED Monday, May 29 for Memorial Day.
NEW OPTIONS AVAILABLE AT THE VILLAGE OF MEAD
The Village of Mead is considering offering
payment with credit/debit cards in the near future. We will let you know if and when this service
becomes available.
The village is offering emailing of water
and sewer invoices is you so choose. If
you are interested in this option, please stop by the office and sign up for
this service.
SWIMMING POOLS / SPAS
/ HOT TUBS: A fence is required to surround all pools,
spas and hot tubs containing at least 18” of water. If the spa / hot tub has a lock attached this
will forgo the fence request but the spa / hot tub must be locked at all times
when not in use. A permit for the fence
must be obtained from the Planning Commission prior to erecting the pool / spa
/ hot tub.

BBQ
Benefit at the Mead Park ~
M
& M Ministry BBQ Benefit will be held Saturday, June 24th from 12-2 pm at
the Mead Park. The event is a joint
effort between Alma Lutheran Church and Edensburg Lutheran Church, Malmo.
A freewill donation with all proceeds going to support Mead Volunteer
Fire/Rescue Department, Camp Carol Joy Holling and Prague Park improvement.
Please come and support this annual fundraiser!
Bible School is scheduled for June 19th
through 23rd at Alma Lutheran Church (with the time to be set). Vacation Bible
School is for kids ages 3 to 6th grade (entering in the fall). The theme is Maker Fun Factory, created
by God, built for a purpose. Online

BUILDING GUIDELINES - Prior to beginning any construction,
fencing or demolition project, an APPPLICATION FOR A PERMIT must be approved by
the Mead Planning Commission.
Construction projects excluded are accessory buildings less than 150 sq.
ft. that meet variance requirements and residential sidewalks and
driveways. If a project is started prior
to approval, a $100.00 penalty fee is added to the project cost. You must contact the Village Office to be
placed on the agenda 24 hours prior to the meeting. Since the board meets on Monday, this needs
to be requested no later than Friday by 10:00 a.m.

Mead Public Library Board will meet Wednesday, June 21, at 530pm
in the library.

movie will be shown at 10am. Please
join us for popcorn and be sure to bring your own covered drink.
Wednesday,
June 14 – Kids’ Craft Night. Come anytime
between 430pm and 630pm to make a special gift for Father’s
Day.

June 9, 16, 23, and 30 – UNL Extension Programs. Join us every
Friday in June at 10am for a fun event!

June 28 – Participate
in Kids’ Crafts. This session will be offered from 430pm to 630pm.
June Summer Reading Program
Parents
of young children and community volunteers are needed for Summer Reading
Program events throughout the month of June. If you can help serve Mead’s
children and support the program, please contact Library staff at meadlibrary@outlook.com or 402.624.6605.
The
state-wide theme for the 2017 Summer Reading Program is “Build a Better
World.” Events planned at the Library include:
June
6-9
– Summer Reading Camp from 10am-11am each day. Different guests
will present daily, including Madeleine Rheinheimer, teen author of the
children’s book Undefined, on Wednesday, June 7.
Thursday,
July 6 – Coding Workshop for children entering grade 4 through grade 12.
From 10am-1pm youth have the opportunity to learn introductory computer
science in this FREE 3 hour game environment class. Lunch is included and seats
are limited, so mark your calendars now.
Homebound Library Delivery Service
If
you know a community member who is temporarily or permanently housebound, Mead
Public Library can assist by delivering books. There is no charge for this
service. To make arrangements for homebound delivery, call Mead Public

Thank you
Thanks
to members of the Mead Friends of the Library Foundation who organized
and to community folks who participated in the Library Books and Baked Goods
Garage Sale on Saturday, May 6. Proceeds from the event will help
support library programming. Also, thank you to Friends who have created and
care for the landscaping around the library.
A special thank you to Rita, who commutes from Fremont to help each
week. This summer will mark two years Rita has donated her time to Mead
Public Library, and her service is truly appreciated.
