TREE BRANCHES, WEEDS, LEAVES AND GRASS CLIPPINGS ARE THE ONLY ITEMS ALLOWED. ALL ITEMS MUST BE UNBAGGED. ALL LOADS WILL BE CHECKED. THE DUMP IS OPEN TO MEAD RESIDENTS ONLY AT A CHARGE OF $2.00 PER LOAD, PAYABLE TO THE DUMPMASTER.


FIREMEN SPONSOR ANNUAL HALLOWEEN PARTY

The Annual Halloween Party, sponsored by the Mead Fire and Rescue Department, will be held Wednesday, October 31 at 6:00 p.m. at the Mead Community Building.

Hotdogs and hot chocolate will be served. A costume judging contest for all ages will complete the evening.

Snow Emergency Route
Action was taken at the July 10, 2007 Board of Trustees meeting to designate a Snow Emergency Route within the Village of Mead. Snow Emergency Route is defined as Elm Street from Highway 92 to Eighth Street, Vine Street from First Street to Eighth Street, First Street from Elm Street to County Road 10, Fourth Street from Elm Street to County Road 10, and Eighth Street from Oak Street to County Road 10.

Signs will be posted on the streets indicating they are designated as the Snow Emergency Route. Parking on these streets is not permitted during a snow storm.

Alma’s Make ‘n ‘Take Meal is held the last Saturday of the month from 9:00 am - 11:00 am at the church. Cost is $3.50 for a two serving portion and $7.00 for a four serving size. Please include an additional $1 if you would like the women to make your casserole for you to pick up at a later date.

VILLAGE OF MEAD BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEET SEPTEMBER 11

The Village of Mead Board of Trustees met September 11 at 7:00 p.m. Present were Board Chair Nate Mongan, Trustees Bobbie Feldhaus, Brad Howell, Ailene Raver and Dick Swanson. Also present were Clerk Moline, Utility/Maintenance Supt. Brabec and Police Chief Carlson. Guests were Doug Hutmacher, Jody Weible, Melissa Konecky and Rick Wielage.
A Budget Hearing was called at 7:06 p.m. Action was taken to approve the 10/1/07-9/30/08 budget, 1% growth increase and Resolution 07-13 Final Tax Levy of 19.9795 cents per one hundred dollars of actual valuation. A Public Hearing was called at 7:09 p.m. Action was taken to waive three readings and adopt Ordinance 572 to amend the zoning ordinance to Section 11-305 and 11-307 to read that sidewalls for detached accessory buildings not exceed 8’ in height and approved Resolution 07-14 to subdivide 3.07 acres of land for Steve Black on land described as Parcel 1, Lot 1, Black’s Addition to the Village of Mead. A Board of Adjustment Hearing was held at 7:13 p.m. Action was taken to approve Resolution 07-15 to allow a variance from Section 11-410 to allow a 7’ fence at 416 S. Vine St. to Doug Hutmacher.
The board returned to regular session at 7:16 p.m. Bids were opened to shingle the depot. Bids being: Tim Hannan—$5,280 overlay shingles or $6,480 tear off and shingle, Dick Pelster—$3,240 overlay shingles plus tear off $2,322 for a total of $5,562 and 21st Century Builders—$5,440 overlay shingles or $6,640 tear off and shingle. Discussion was held on completion of concession stand, maintenance at the wastewater facility, replacement of sidewalks / reseed yards of homeowners due to water line replacement, yard conditions, dogs running at large, parking issues and ordinance to allow ATV’s on the streets of Mead. Implementation of an ATV ordinance will not be sought. Action was taken to accept the bid of $3,240 from Dick Pelster to overlay shingles on the depot, terminate S.A.A. 200 (Mead-OPPD) Agreement, and extend deadline to Nov. 1, 2007 for Brabec to use PTO hours.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:45 p.m.

Mead Public Library Sponsors Story Hour

Story Hour will be held on Thursday mornings from 9:30 am - 10:30 am. Books, art and snacks are activities planned. All Pre-school age children are invited to attend. Children may check out books to enjoy at home.

A Halloween Party will be scheduled. Costumes may be worn and local businesses will be “visited” by the “ghosts and goblins”. More information will be provided at Story Hour.

NEW OFFICERS ELECTED TO LIBRARY BOARD
New officers of the Mead Library Board are Lesha Quinn - Chairperson, Virgene Schutt - Vice Chair and Brenda Halbmaier - Secretary. Additional members on the board are Jennifer Carritt and Fran Hughes. The Librarian is Vera Kuhr and Assistant Librarian, Pat Miller
The Library Board meets the first Saturday of the month at 9:30 a.m.

Mead Booster Update . . .

If you haven’t joined the Mead Boosters yet and you want to support your local Mead School Athletic program, it is NOT too late. For a minimal $10 donation, you to can be a Mead Athletic Booster member. Memberships can be purchased at the Bank of Mead or Mead Public School. With your membership, you are able to purchase a discount punch card for all home games as well as being recognized as a Mead Athletic Booster member. JOIN TODAY!

The Mead Boosters provided new uniforms for the volleyball team, updated banners in the gym, and purchased two new signs (one in the gym, the other at the football field). All proceeds from Mead Boosters goes back to the school in uniforms, equipment or support.
