SANTA CLAUS ARRIVES DECEMBER 21

Santa Claus will visit the students at Mead Elementary School on December 21 at 9:30 a.m.  Following his visit to the school, he will be transported by members of the Mead Fire/Rescue Department to the Village Office at approximately 10:30 a.m.  He will be at the Village Office until 11:00 a.m.

 

VILLAGE OF MEAD BOARD OF TRUSTEES HOLD MEETING ON NOVEMBER 8 

The Village of Mead Board of Trustees met November 8, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. at the Village Office.  Answering roll call were Chairman Havelka; Trustees Felty, Wielage and Wimer.  Absent was Trustee Guyle.  Also present were Clerk Moline, Utility/Maintenance Supt. Raver and Police Chief Carlson.  Guests present were:   Ed Schroeder and Colleen Morrissey. 

 

SCHEDULED GUESTS:  Accountant Ed Schroeder presented the 10/1/15 through 9/30/16 Audit Report.  Action was taken to approve the Audit Report.  Colleen Morrissey inquired about her recent water/sewer bill and what the board’s plans were and when to fix the drainage problem on her property.

 

REPORTS: Police - The Monthly Police Report was presented.  Unlicensed utility-type vehicles and golf carts were discussed.  Utility/Maintenance Supt. - Raver reported completion of cleaning all sewer lines north of the railroad tracks and a homeowner’s sewer backup.  Planning Commission - The minutes of the 10/24 Regular Meeting and permits issued were accepted.  Permits being:  16-20, Jeff Getzschman - erect a chain-link fence; 16-21, Bryce Anderson - remove a storage shed at Andy’s Mobile Home Park; 16-22, Bryce Anderson - erect a storage shed at Andy’s Mobile Home Park; and 16-23, Brooke Lamprecht - demolish a house/garage.  Library - The minutes of the 10/19 Library Board meeting were reviewed.  Action was taken to adopt Ordinance No. 690, Set wage for Library Aide.  Clerk - Moline presented a flyer with prices for a radar speed sign.

 

NEW BUSINESS:  Action was taken to approve Resolution 16-17, $2,590,000 loan at 1.875% interest and $877,000 grant from the USDA for a water project; adopt Resolution 16-18, Lien on property located at 1020 Co Rd M; and approve first reading of Ordinance No. 689, amend Chapter 8, Article 4, Section 8-401 Deposit to Cut / Grind Curb.   The Annual Christmas Party was discussed. 

 

The meeting adjourned at 7:56 p.m.

MEAD PUBLIC LIBRARY NEWS

Fall Library Hours

Tuesdays  10am-1pm and 4pm-7pm                          Fridays  9am-1pm

Wednesdays  4pm-7pm                                             Saturdays  9am-12noon

               Thursdays  9am-6pm                                     Closed:  Sunday and Monday

 

NOTE: The library will be closed Saturday, December 24, and Saturday, December 31.

 

Monthly Schedule for December

Coffee Hour is scheduled every Tuesday at 10am and Story Time for young children is offered every Thursday at 4pm.

The Lunch Bunch Book Club will meet from 11am-1230pm on Friday, December 16 for a Holiday Party.  We will be having lunch (please bring a potluck dish) and watching the movie “Flipped”, our November book club read. 

The Library Board will meet not meet in December. The next meeting of the Board will be Wednesday, January 18, at 530pm in the library.

 

Special Event

Tuesday, November 29 – First Annual Holiday Decorations Sale begins at 10am. We will have a table of gently used holiday décor for sale. All proceeds/donations go to the Mead Library Friends Foundation and will be earmarked for the library’s Summer Reading Program. If you have un-needed holiday items to donate for this fundraiser, please bring them to the library.

 

Winter Holiday Break Activities

Thursday, December 22, from 445-6pm – Teen Advisory Board (TAB) Meeting for all Mead students in grades 6-12.

Friday, December 23, at 11am – Cupcake Wars! Grab a friend and decorate some cupcakes.  Official rules and registration form are available on our Facebook page or at the library. Registration deadline is December 20.  Grand Prize is a Kindle Tablet! 

Tuesday, December 27 Let’s Play Bingo!  Stop by anytime between 430-630pm to participate. Fun for all ages.

Friday, December 30, from 10-1130am – Movie Morning. Join us for a PG-rated movie and some popcorn. Bring your own covered drink if desired. Children under 8 need to be accompanied by a parent.

 

Looking Ahead

SAVE THE DATE! The annual Mead Library Friends Foundation Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser will take place during the basketball games with Yutan on Friday, January 6, 2017. Please plan to come and enjoy spaghetti and support the library.

We are starting to prepare for our Summer Reading Camp next June. If you would like to be part of this program serving Mead’s young children, speak with library staff.

Thanks to Sara Nicola, Mary Mayfield, and Dalene Selko who shared stories during “November is Read Aloud Month” and to patrons who donated books, supplies, and items for the holiday decorations sale. Also, a special thank you to Liz and Rita who volunteer each week and to community members who helped with the Halloween Story Time Party.

 

GUIDELINES FOR SNOW REMOVAL

     Any vehicle parked in violation of any traffic regulations or any vehicle parked so as to obstruct the free movement of traffic or to cause a traffic hazard, or any vehicle parked on any street or alley obstructing the removal of snow may be immediately removed upon order of the Police Department.  5-304

     Following a snowfall of two (2”) inches or more, it shall be unlawful to park or stand any vehicle on any street within the Village of Mead until the street has been cleared.  5-311

     All sidewalks within the municipality shall be cleaned within twenty four (24) hours after the cessation of the storm. 8-201

     Due to a snowstorm or accumulation of heavy snow, please be aware that the dump may be closed.  The dump is open the first Saturday of the month from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., November 1 through March 31.

 

     The Bank of Mead is sponsoring a coloring contest for kids through grade six.  You can pick up the picture  at the Bank of Mead or Village Office that needs to be colored .  The picture needs to be delivered to the Bank of Mead by NOON, DECEMBER 23 for judging.  There are three age levels:  Preschool, K-3 and 4-6.  Prizes will be awarded. 

     Please make sure your name, phone number and age are included on the BACK of the coloring sheet.
