VILLAGE BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEET IN NUMBEROUS MEETINGS -
A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Village of Mead was held on January 11 at 6:00 p.m. Answering roll call were Chairperson A. Raver, Trustees Halbmaier, Mayfield, Miller and Wielage. Also in attendance were Clerk/Treasurer Moline, Utility/Maintenance/Street Supt. N. Raver and Police Chief Carlson. Guests present were Justin Stine, Tim Adams, Julie Ogden, Steve Kadavy, Paul and Patty Knott, Bobbie and Lee Feldhaus, John Trouba, Andrea Elworth and Kathleen Elworth.
PUBLIC HEARINGS:
(6:08 p.m. - 6:12 p.m.) Ordinance No. 611, Conditional Use Permit to Frontier Co-op to place two propane tanks within the Light Industrial District at 410 E. Third St., Mead was approved.
(6:37 p.m. - 6:42 p.m.) Resolution 11-01, One and Six Year Street Plan was approved.
(7:18 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.) John Trouba, SENDD, reviewed documents required for an Application for a Wastewater Study using CDBG funds.
SCHEDULED GUESTS:
Street Supt., Julie Ogden with JEO Consulting, reported approval of a CDBG Street Study for $30,000.00, with $7,700.00 being local support.
Justin Stine, JEO Consulting, updated the board on the Water Study.
UNSCHEDULED GUESTS:
Paul and Patty Knott expressed concerns regarding the drainage from the grain bins at Frontier Co-op. They asked that Frontier reroute the drainage from the co-op to flow east rather than south to be considered.
The following action was taken: approve transfer of $4,000.00 from CD# 7533 to water checking account; awarded a contract for Grant General Administration of the CDBG Street Study Project to SENDD; approved JEO Consulting to conduct the Street Study; approved Resolution 11-02, made application for a Municipal Preliminary Engineering Report Project on the wastewater facilities with CDBG funds; adopted Ordinance 608, Alcoholic Beverages; Hours of Sale on third reading; approved first reading of Ordinance 612, Water and Sewer Rates and a $.75 hour wage increase to Clerk/Treasurer.
REPORTS:
UTILITY/MAINTENANCE/STREET SUPT. - A pump has been installed in the backup well and issues at the wastewater plant were reported.
POLICE - The monthly police report was given.
CLERK - Dates of Clerk Academy and completion of EECBG Energy Grant for improvements at the Community Building were reported. Meeting guidelines from the attorney were distributed to board members.
PLANNING COMMISSION—The minutes of the January 10 public hearing were reviewed.
LIBRARY - The December 1 meeting minutes and January 6 agenda were reviewed.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:29 p.m.

Mead Community Group 40 Developmental Assets Tip of the Month
Constructive Use of Time: Young people need constructive, enriching opportunities for growth through creative activities, youth programs, congregational involvement, and quality time at home.
Asset #17 – Creative Activities: Kids spend three or more hours each week in lessons or practice of music, theater, or other arts. Encourage your children to get involved in the arts. As much as possible, let them choose what to do – play the piano (or the tuba), sing or act, dance, paint, write, draw, throw pots, or whatever interests them. Provide instruments, materials, and lessons (group lessons are fine). Allow and respect practice time.
Other ways to put it into practice:
*Hand down a hobby; quilting, carpentry or gardening are just a few examples.
*If you used to play an instrument, get it back out and play for enjoyment. Set a good example by practicing. Join a choir. Try out for a play .
Some ideas for very young children (ages 3-5):
*Make a book with your child. Cut out magazine illustrations to use for pictures. Write a fictional story with your child and yourself as the main characters.
*Incorporate music into your life. Sing, dance, check out music for young children from your library.
*Use music, puzzles, books, dramatic play and games to add variety and interest to your child's day.
Next Mead Community Group meeting is planned for Thursday, February 24th at 1:00 pm. Mead High School library. All interested parties are welcome.
NOTICE TO BIDDERS
The VILLAGE OF MEAD is accepting bids for removal and replacement of shingles on the roof of the Public Library. Specifications are:
1) Tear off, haul and dispose of old shingles, check plywood
2) Apply ice and water shield and felt
3) Install drip edge, flashing, roof vents, etc.
4) Install new shingles (must have warranty of 25 years or greater)
Sealed bids will be accepted until 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at the Village Office, 312 S. Vine St., Box 46, Mead, NE 68041-0046. For information, contact Maintenance Superintendent, Nick Raver, at (402) 443-9688. Bids will be opened at the 6:00 p.m. February 8 meeting of the Board of Trustees.

DOG AND CAT VACCINATION DAY
Please note that the Annual Dog and Cat Vaccination and License Day has been scheduled for Saturday, April 9 from 1:30—3:00 P.M. at the Mead Community Building
Dr. Dobesh will be available to give your pet shots and provide products to purchase for heartworm and fleas and ticks. Blood draw for heartworm is also available.
You may also purchase your annual tags for your dogs and cats on that day. Pet licenses are due May 1..
DISPOSE OF UNWANTED METAL
The Village Board of Trustees approved placing a dumpster to dispose of metal products by community residents. The dumpster is located at the dumpsite and is available only during regular dump hours. Only specific items are permitted at a fee of $2.00 per dump. Any questions, please contact Maintenance Superintendent Nick Raver.
