VILLAGE OF MEAD BOARD OF TRUSTEES
The Village of Mead Board of Trustees met March 11 at 6:00 pm at the Village Office. Answering roll call were Chairman Guyle and Trustees Wielage and Wimer. Absent were Trustees Havelka and Miller. Also present were Clerk Moline and Police Chief Carlson. Guest was Alex Shada.
A Public Hearing was called at 6:15 pm to hear testimony to amend Zoning Ord. Chapter 11, Article Section 11-306 and Section 11-307. The hearing adjourned at 6:20 pm.
SCHEDULED GUEST: Alex Shada introduced himself as a candidate for Saunders Co. Clerk.
REPORTS: UTILITY / MAINTENANCE SUPT.: Report submitted by Raver addressed levels and pump requirement at the lagoons, cost to replace sod at the baseball field due to criminal mischief and status of new mower. The dump is initially planned to reopen on April 5. POLICE: The Monthly Police Report was reported. Discussion was held on car maintenance needs and nuisance of vehicles. CLERK: Moline reported meter maintenance, Clean Up Day scheduled for May 31 and upcoming NE Clerk Academy. LIBRARY: Minutes of the Feb. 19 Library Board Meeting were reviewed. Annual evaluation and $1.00 wage increase to the Library Director was approved by the Library Board. PLANNING COMMISSION: The minutes of the Feb. 24 Regular Meeting and Public Hearing were reviewed.
Action was taken to approve Ord. 646, Amend Chapter 11, Article 3, Section 11-306 and Section 11-307 with the addition of “all property pins are required to be located”; adopt on third reading Ord. 643, Sewer Rates; and approved second reading of Ord.’s 644 and 645, Non-exclusive Franchise Agreement with Quality Disposal and Waste Connections. Also approved were Resolution 14-06, Loan with the Bank of Mead for $20,086.99 to purchase a lawnmower, tar machine and hydraulic hammer; Resolution 14-07,Special Designated Liquor License to Mead Vol. Fire Dept. for Alumni Get-together on March 21 and 22 at the Mead Community Bldg., and hired Victoria Morken to clean the park restrooms at $10.00 hr.
A Wastewater Project Report was submitted by Ben Day, Olsson Assoc. Topics covered were additional seeding, two unit heaters, startup of lagoons and generator, plant demolition, fence and dump road / access road maintenance.
The board entered executive session at 7:30 pm for the prevention of needless injury to the reputation of an individual for the annual reviews of the Police Chief and Dumpmaster. The board returned to regular session at 7:35 pm. The meeting adjourned at 7:35 pm.

Come to the Mead Public Library on March 22nd, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. and "Meet the Author!" Treat yourself to a BOOB (Burned Out Old Broads) Girl presentation by author, Joy Johnson. Joy is an internationally-known speaker and has spoken to over 200 groups. She will share with us the best jokes, the funniest character, the beauty of older women, the friendship of women and the healing power of laughter. Join us on Saturday March 22nd at 2:00 p.m. for Joy Johnson's presentation, rolls & coffee. Please give us a call at 402-624-6605 and make reservations for your seat at "Table 12".
Children and adults alike enjoyed celebrating Dr. Seuss' birthday here at the library on February 25th & March 1st during storytime activities. More than 40 adults & children celebrated with birthday cake, Dr. Seuss stories and made Cat in the Hat masks.
The Friends of the Library have donated the funds for a new library circulation/information desk following the annual Spaghetti Feed fundraiser where $884 was raised. Please stop in at the library and see our new desk. It has opened up space to use for storytime activities for acting out stories, singing/dancing and other appropriate activities during storytime.

*Internet is used as an excuse to not make friends in “real time”, like at school and in the neighborhood
How do we help keep kids safe online?
*Search names and e-mails online
*Have computers in a room the whole family shares
*Consider limiting the amount of non-homework computer time
*Check internet caches (history of sights visited)
*Block unwanted web-sites

*Computer games can be networking opportunities as well
*Set RULES and LIMITS
Strategies for Kids
*Stop, Block, and Tell! Don't respond to a person cyber-bullying you, block the individual
and tell a trusted adult.
*Keep personal information private.
*Google yourself, keep tabs on the number in the upper right corner. It should not drastically increase under normal conditions.

Tree branches, weeds, leaves and grass clippings are the ONLY items permitted. All items must be unbagged. A dumpster is also onsite to dispose of iron/metal products. The dump is open to Mead residents ONLY, at a charge of $2.00 per load. All loads will be checked by the Dumpmaster prior to disposal of the items.

DOG AND CAT VACCINATION CLINIC AND LICENSE DAY

Dr. Dobesh with Green Acre Animal Clinic, Wahoo, will be present to administer pet vaccinations and the Village Clerk will be available to issue dog and cat licenses with proof of rabies vaccination and alteration. Available on the 5th will be vaccinations of rabies, distemper/parvo for dogs and rabies/distemper for cats. Products available to purchase will be Heartgard and Frontline for your pets. Blood tests for heartworm will also be available. Cost to license your pet is $4.00 altered, $6.00 intact. ALL DOGS and CATS within village limits are to be licensed by May 1.

FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY FOUNDATION
ARE SEEKING NEW MEMBERS TO JOIN US IN THIS ORGANIZATION
Purpose: The object of the Mead Library Friends Foundation shall be to promote the interest and welfare of the Mead Public Library by providing needed funds and services to increase and enhance the use of the library by all members of the community. The MLFF will also work to preserve Mead historical information and artifacts and make them available at the library for study and reference.
Funds will be raised by various activities conducted by foundation members and volunteers in the community. Donations of money and or historical items will be accepted from individuals and/or approved projects.
Membership will be open to all residents that receive service from the Mead Public Library. A minimum of three regular meetings will be held per year.

There will be a fee charged for disposal of tires.
