Mead Community Group Healthy Family Tip of the Month

Be a Big Kid! The Importance of Cutting Loose

“Just play. Have fun. Enjoy the game.” - Michael Jordan

Michael Jordan is a famous basketball player, but his advice applies to all of life. Research shows that it's good for your overall well-being and your relationships to be silly, funny and not-so-serious all of the time. Try “playful parenting”, join in your child's world of play, focusing on connection, giggling, and letting your child take the lead. “Playful” is really a state of mind. Here are a few ideas to get you started:

*Have an impromptu dance party
*Make goofy shapes out of sandwiches or pancakes
*Throw a “Tuesday Party” or other random celebration
*If you have a particularly moody child, be ready to seize the moment when they are feeling a bit more lighthearted.
