VILLAGE OF MEAD BOARD OF TRUSTEES HOLD MEETING JULY 12
 

A regular meeting of the Village of Mead Board of Trustees was held July 12, 2016 at the Village Office at 6:04 p.m. Present were Chairman Havelka; Trustees Felty, Guyle and Wielage. Absent was Trustee Wimer. Also present were Clerk/Treasurer Moline, Police Chief Carlson and Library Director VanAckeren. Guests were Craig Reinsch, Maureen Freeman-Caddy, Patty Knott, Alice Adams, Bob Hannan, Jim Halbmaier, Levi Durnal and Jeff Barris.
SCHEDULED GUESTS: Attorney Maureen Freeman-Caddy discussed the process for a condemnation. Litigation process was discussed in Executive Session with the board. Motion passed to schedule clean-up of property located at 1020 Co Rd M pursuant to court order. Jim Halbmaier and Levi Durnal expressed their concerns over low water pressure. Raver and Wimer will look into a solution of the problem. Craig Reinsch, Olsson Associates, presented an update on the water project, and annexation and easement processes. Alice Adams and Bob Hannan expressed concern with condition of properties and a drainage issue along Seventh Street from Elm Street to Vine Street. Raver will be directed to contact Subbert Pumping to clean the storm sewer. Jeff Barris addressed a nuisance violation.
UNSCHEDULED GUESTS: Laurie VanAckeren was granted permission to store unused library shelves at the quonset, with Raver moving from the library to the quonset. Patty Knott questioned possible annexation and easement on her property.
REPORTS: Police - Carlson presented the monthly police report, nuisance violations at 410 S. Oak Street and 420 S. Cedar Street and status of an accessory building erected without the required permit. Resolution 16-12, Declared Nuisance Violation and Condemnation Declaration of Property located at 420 S. Cedar Street was adopted. Planning Commission - The minutes of the June 27 Regular Meeting were accepted. Jim Halbmaier was approved as a member of the commission. Library - The minutes of the June 15 Library Board Meeting were accepted. Clerk - Moline reported receipt of a concern with the dump being unlocked during off-hours, IIMC class credits, required meter repairs, peddler permit request, recycling and vacation request.
NEW BUSINESS: Action taken was to adopt Ordinance 685, All-terrain vehicles, Utility terrain vehicles and golf cars permitted and Ord. 685, Amend salary of the Utility / Maintenance Superintendent and Library Directors. Input was presented on budget requests for the upcoming fiscal year.
The meeting adjourned at 9:31 p.m.

NOTICE OF PUBLIC MEETING
 A Public Meeting will be held Monday, August 22, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. at the Mead Community Building.
 
The purpose of the public meeting is to allow input into the planning of a State Revolving Loan funded water project on the part of the local citizens and any other interested parties, governmental agencies or groups.
 
All persons interested in the design, location and construction of the water facilities and the potential impact to the existing water rates are invited to appear and express their views.

MEAD PUBLIC LIBRARY NEWS
Summer Library Hours
Tuesdays 10am-1pm and 4pm-7pm Fridays 9am-2pm
Wednesdays 4pm-7pm Saturdays 10am-2pm Thursdays 11am-6pm Closed: Sunday and Monday
 
PLEASE NOTE: The library will close at 6pm on Tuesday, August 9, for the Village Board Budget Hearing and close at 5:30pm on Wednesday, August 17, for the Library Board Meeting. We will also be closed all day Thursday, August 25, and Friday, August 26, so staff can attend a training conference.
 
Monthly Schedule
Coffee Hour is scheduled every Tuesday at 10am and Story Time for young children is offered every Thursday at 4pm and Saturday at 11am.
The Lunch Bunch Book Club will meet from 1130am-1230pm on Friday, August 19. All residents are welcome to stop by and enjoy the book discussion, dessert, and coffee.
The Library Board will meet Wednesday, August 17, at 5:30pm. This session is open to the public and the agenda is posted prior to the meeting inside the library and the Mead Post Office.
Upcoming Special Events
Saturday, August 6, is Root Beer Float Day. Stop in to cool off and join us for root beer floats from 11:30am-12:30pm.
New Materials
Last month, Mead Public Library received over 100 new books through the Pilcrow Foundation’s Children’s Book Project. This organization supports rural public libraries by partnering with Friends and other local sponsors to provide new hard-bound books for young readers. Stop by and check out the new additions to our collection.

The 2016 Summer Reading Program concluded with a party on June 30. Your donations were greatly appreciated by program participants.
 
Mead Public School begins Wednesday, August 17. Please use extra caution of students walking or riding their bicycles to school.
