BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEET NOVEMBER 11
The Village of Mead Board of Trustees met November 11 at 6:00 pm at the Village Office. Present were Chairman Howell; Trustees Feldhaus, Mongan, Raver and Swanson. Also present were Clerk Moline, Utility/Maintenance Supt. Brabec and guests Jim Halbmaier and Ed Schroeder.

Mr. Schroeder presented the 10/01/07-09/30/08 Audit Report.

Action was taken to transfer $10,000.00 from Debt Service checking to a CD with the Bank of Mead, approved the Audit Report, amended the Common Facility Agreement with Mead Public Schools and approved a Cooperative Agreement for Sanding Unit with Mead Public Schools. First Reading was heard for Ordinance 579 Service Deposit for Water Services and Ordinance 580 Service Deposit for Sewer Services. First and Second readings were waived and Ordinance 581 Re-connection Fee was approved. Resolution 08-17 to amend the Employee Handbook and write off $14.86 on a delinquent account was approved.

The Planning Commission Report, Library Report and Police Report were accepted as written.

CLERK REPORT: Moline reported delinquent utility accounts, completion and distribution of the updated Planning Commission Manuals and vacation request. The Christmas Dinner was discussed.

MAINTENANCE REPORT: Brabec requested information as to future water and sewer needs for reports and number of “Notice to Peddler” signs to purchase. He reported delivery of the salt/sand spreader. Procedure for turning off delinquent accounts was reviewed. Request was made to Brabec as to timeline for street pothole repairs, engraving of tools and completion of tool and equipment inventory.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:50 p.m.


BOARD OF TRUSTEES HOLD PUBLIC HEARING ON NOVEMBER 11

A Public Hearing of the Mead Board of Trustees was held November 11 at 6:12 p.m.

Purpose of the hearing was to amend the zoning ordinance regarding signs.

Waiving First and second reading and adoption of Ordinance 578 Amend Signs was approved.

The hearing was adjourned at 6:15 p.m.

The Village Office will be closed at various times during the holidays. Please check to see if we are open. If we are not and you have a water / sewer payment, please drop in the drop box located by the front door of the office or deliver to the Bank of Mead.

SANTA ARRIVES DECEMBER 18

Santa Claus will be making his annual stop in Mead on Thursday, December 18. He will stop at Mead Elementary School at 9:30 a.m. From there he will come to the Mead Library to greet youngsters from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.

We wish to thank Nate Mongan for his twelve years of service on the Board of Trustees. Nate elected not to run as a candidate in this year’s election. He has served in the capacity of Chairman and Trustee. Thank you, you will be missed.

Ailene Raver was re-elected to the Board of Trustees. Newly elected to serve on the Board of Trustees was Jim Halbmaier. These are four year terms. Welcome!

Mead Library News - November, 2008 by Vera Kuhr, Librarian

Summer Reading - The library is looking for input from parents as to what to include in the summer reading program for the coming year. We have not had a good reception especially at the end of the program. Please stop at the library or call (624-6605) with your suggestions.

Santa Claus - Santa Claus will be at the library on Thursday, December 18 at 10:30 (approximately) for all preschool children. Bring your camera!!!!

Flu Shots - Flu shots will be given on Wednesday, November 26 from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm at the library. Please bring your Medicare card.

New Materials - The library received a donation of newer paper backs that have all been catalogued. New titles for adult fiction: “A Good Woman” by Danielle Steel; “The Brass Verdict” by Michael Connelly; “Izzy & Lenore” by Jon Katz (this is about a dog); “The Longest Trip Home” by John Grogan (who wrote Marley and Me); “Sunset” by Karen Kingsbury (the last one in this series); “The Jewel of Gresham Green” by Lawana Blackwell; “A Time to Gather and A time to Mend” by Sally John and Gary Smalley (a new author); “Real Life” by Dr. Phil; “Charley’s Web” by Joy Fielding; “Harvest” by Tess Gerritsen; and “The Gods of Newport” by John Jakes.

Juvenile—The library has all four titles by Stephanie Meyer and many titles were added during the summer for elementary readers.

The Village Board and Planning Commission meet at the Village Office, Library Board at the Library & the Fire Department at the Fire Hall.

Snow Emergency Route
Snow Emergency Route within the Village of Mead is defined as Elm Street from Highway 92 to Eighth Street, Vine Street from First Street to Eighth Street, First Street from Elm Street to County Road 10, Fourth Street from Elm Street to County Road 10, and Eighth Street from Oak Street to County Road 10.
Signs are posted on the streets indicating they are designated as the Snow Emergency Route. Parking on these streets is not permitted during snow accumulation. “No parking” on side streets is also encouraged to aid in snow removal in a timely manner.

Village Ordinance requires that all sidewalks within Village limits be
cleared 24 hours following the cessation of snow.

Reminder . . .
Please do not rake your leaves into the streets. Future problems may occur with plugged drainage systems if done so.

BASKETBALL BEGINS

Good luck to Mead Jr.-Sr. High School basketball teams as they begin their seasons. Varsity and Junior Varsity games begin Friday, December 5 at Johnson County. The High School teams play their first home games on Friday, December 12. The Junior High boys began their season on Tuesday, November 18 against Omaha Christian Academy. The Junior High girls have their first game at Prague on Thursday, January 8. GOOD LUCK!
