VILLAGE
OF MEAD BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEETING MINUTES - OCTOBER 11, 2016
A regular meeting of the Village of Mead Board of Trustees was held
October 11 at 6:00 p.m. at the Village Office.
Answering roll call were Trustees Jason Felty, Gary Guyle, Richard
Wielage and Rod Wimer. Absent was
Chairman Shawn Havelka. Also present
were Clerk June Moline, Utility/Maintenance Supt. Nick Raver, Police Chief
Jerry Carlson and Library Director Laurie VanAckeren. Guests were Craig Reinsch, Janice Stopak and
Brooke Lamprecht.
Gary Guyle was elected Chairman Pro-tempore.
SCHEDULED GUESTS: Janice
Stopak, USDA, presented a funding proposal for the future water
project. Craig Reinsch, Olsson
Associates, discussed Amendment #2 for professional services with Olsson
Associates to complete a water project.
Amendment #2 was approved. Brooke
Lamprecht discussed demolition of her house at 420 S. Cedar St. She was instructed to apply for a demolition
permit and proceed with the project once approved.
REPORTS: UTILITY/MAINTENANCE
SUPERINTENDENT - Raver reported upcoming ISO inspection and receipt of new
pickup and XUV. POLICE - Carlson
presented the Monthly Police Report, discussed parking concern along N. First
St. from Elm St. to Vine St. and reported he is a member of the Mead Public
Schools Crisis Plan Safety Committee. PLANNING
COMMISSION - The minutes of the September 26 Regular Meeting and permits
issued were approved. LIBRARY -
The minutes of the September 21 Library Board meeting and Mary Mayfield as a
member of the Library Board were approved.
VanAckeren invited the board and employees to read to children during
Story Hour as part of “Read Aloud” month in November. CLERK - Moline reported completion of
audit and odor concerns from residents.
NEW BUSINESS: Action was
taken to approve Ordinance No. 687 amending 4-305 expenses incurred for abatement
of nuisances; authorized Village Clerk and Chairman to approve the purchase of
a pickup and XUV pursuant to resolution; reviewed financial institution
proposals for the purchase of a pickup and XUV; adopted Resolution 16-16, Loan
with the Bank of Mead to finance the purchase of a 2016 Ford F350 pickup and
John Deere XUV 855D for $30,763.00; and approved Agreement for Professional
Services with Olsson Associates for 1/1/2017 through 12/31/19.
The meeting adjourned at 7:16 p.m.

of the Mead Community Group for sponsoring Trunk-or-Treat on Halloween.

DUMP
HOURS effective November 1 - March 31
The
dump will be open the FIRST SATURDAY OF THE MONTH ONLY from 8 am - 12 noon.
During
the winter months, be aware that the dump may be closed due to inclement
weather.
Tree branches, weeds, leaves and grass clippings are the only items
permitted. Please do not deliver any wood or
construction products of any kind as these are not allowed! These items will result in your load being
turned away. A dumpster for metal / iron
products is available at the dump.
The
dump is available to Mead residents only!
Cost is $2.00 per load, including metal/iron products, payable to the
Dumpmaster. ALL LOADS WILL BE
INSPECTED BY THE DUMPMASTER PRIOR TO DISPOSAL.

Schedule for November
Coffee Hour is
scheduled every Tuesday at 10am and Story Time for young
children is offered every Thursday at 4pm.
The Lunch Bunch Book Club will meet from 1130am-1230pm on Friday, November 18. All residents are welcome to stop by and
enjoy the book discussion, dessert, and coffee.
The Library Board
will meet Wednesday, November 16, at 530pm. This session is open
to the public and the agenda is posted inside the library and the Mead Post
Office prior to the meeting.
Special
November Events
Wednesday,
November 9 – Craft Night from
430pm-630pm. Come in and make a fun scarecrow magnet. If you are 12 and
younger, please bring a parent/guardian with you as we will be using a hot glue
gun.
Tuesday,
November 29 – First Annual Holiday Decorations Sale begins at 10am. We will have a
table of gently used holiday décor for sale. All proceeds/donations go to the
Mead Library Friends Foundation and will be earmarked for the library’s Summer
Reading Program. If you have un-needed holiday items to donate for this
fundraiser, please bring them to the library by Wednesday, November 23.
November
is Read Aloud Month! Come to Story
Times on Thursdays at 4pm to welcome special guests and
listen to them read stories aloud.

Ahead
We are
starting to prepare for our Summer Reading Camp next June. If you
would like to be part of this program serving Mead’s young children, please
stop by and speak with library staff.
Thank You
Thanks to patrons who donated books,
supplies, and holiday items for the decorations sale this month. A special
thank you to Jeanette Johnson and the Mead Community Group for book donations
made through their federal STAP Grant. New materials on healthy living and
prevention added to the library collection through the grant include: The
Parent Handbook, Families Change, The Way I Feel, Saying Goodbye To Your Pet,
Bullying Under Attack, A Terrible Thing Happened, What if Everybody Did That?,
and When Nothing Matters Anymore.
GUIDELINES
FOR WATER/SEWER PAYMENTS - When paying your water/sewer bills, you
have several options available: Drop
your payment off at the Village Office, place your payment in the drop box by
the front door of the Village Office, mail your payment to Box 46, Mead, NE
68041-0046 or deliver to the Bank of Mead.
If you bank with the Bank of Mead you may make arrangements to have your
payment automatically withdrawn on the 15th of every month. You must complete the required paperwork at
the Village Office. Payments are due on
the 15th of every month. Your payment
must be in the office BY 9:00 A.M. THE FOLLOWING DAY to avoid a $10.00 late
fee.
CLOTHING
EXCHANGE ~ There will be a FREE CLOTHING EXCHANGE at the Wahoo Civic Center on
Sunday, November 6th from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
If you
have items you would like to donate to the Exchange please drop them off at the
Civic Center on Saturday, November 5th from 5:00 p.m.—7:00 p.m.
