MEAD DAYS UPDATE from Dalene
Selko
We are looking for donations for Mead
Days 2015. Donations can be in cash or
Bingo items and can be dropped off at the Bank of Mead. We are really excited about this year’s events
and look forward to hearing your feedback on our new events that we have scheduled. We are adding a Princesses show on Saturday
in which Cinderella, Snow Princess Elsa and Rapunzel will be there. We are also adding a wine tasting event on
Sunday. MARK YOUR CALENDARS!
THE VILLAGE OF MEAD NEEDS A PLANNING
COMMISSION MEMBER
The Village of Mead is in need of a
member of the Planning Commission. If
you are concerned about the community and are willing to learn zoning
regulations, this is the opportunity for you.
You must reside within the corporate limits of Mead. Terms are three-years, with this term ending
May, 2017.
Contact the Village Office, a member of the Board of Trustees or a
member of the Planning Commission to express your interest.
The
Village of Mead is undertaking a Community Survey seeking CDBG funding
for numerous projects. The surveys will
be mailed in the near future. It is
imperative that ALL residents of Mead complete and return the surveys in order
to be considered for the grant funding.
As you know, infrastructure and community projects cost money; so any
funding the community may receive through grant funding will help offset the
cost.
Mead
Community Group - March 2015
We’ve
been reading the book, “Tag, You’re It!” but what is that supposed to
mean? From the book : “The kind of “tag” I’m talking about isn’t
just for little children and it doesn’t involve running away from anyone; it’s
played by adults on behalf of young people, it’s both fun and rewarding. (Once you become “it” you know what to do,
right? You connect with someone else.) Consider yourself “tagged.”
So
here are a few more suggestions to help us connect with young people in our
live, and hope that they then connect with others in the same way:
Learn and use names. Are there young people we meet occasionally
or regularly who would be surprised to hear us say, “Thank you, Carlos” or
“Emily” at the café or grocery store?
All of us like the sound of our own names; it makes us feel a little bit
special and valued. How easy to pass
that along.
Help them to see the “long view”. Rarely do young people see beyond their here
and now and understand the consequences of seemingly trivial actions – a failed
test, a missed appointment, etc.
Sometimes we can share our own “aha” moment when the future became a
little clearer.
Send a card. Who doesn’t love to get mail! You might read about someone’s accomplishment
in a local newspaper or school news and decide to send a “Congratulations” or
“Good Job” card. There are “Thinking of
You” cards that would brighten a life on any day, and of course graduation and
birthdays are perfect for letting a young person know you care.
Say what you value. It doesn’t have to be “preachy,” but
sharing those things that we value and shape our lives might leave a lasting
impression on young people searching for answers. The world provides so many options it must be
hard for our youth to sort things out on their own.
Agree to disagree. If there is understanding that we don’t have to always agree,
then we can afford to share our thoughts and opinions openly, without being
disagreeable. This is important in
any relationship, but with the young people in our lives it is critical to
keeping lines of communication open. And
who knows, their opinions just might be better than our own.
What great ideas, right? Now to try to put them into practice –
there’s the challenge.
The
next Mead Community Group meeting will be April 7, 7:00 PM at the Mead High
School Commons.
