In case of severe weather, the fire siren will be sounded and go up and

It is also a good idea to keep tuned to a local TV channel / radio
station if we are in a watch area.
If a funnel is actually spotted, they will blow a steady blast on
the siren. This is your signal to
take cover at once. For those
residents or businesses without basements, go to the Alma Lutheran Church

Mead
Community Group, April 2016
Welcome
to Spring! As we move into this most
welcome season, we can begin to plan the next few months of activities. Proms, graduations, summer adventures, Mead
Days…. The most recent surveys returned
by Mead students, parents and community members help us evaluate how we can
enter this phase with healthier attitudes about risky behaviors and ways to
encourage our young people to choose health activities.
The
surveys showed that there is an increased awareness of the dangers of drug,
alcohol and tobacco use by teens and young adults. We see a growing trend toward recognition
that young brains are too susceptible to damage by even casual or occasional
use of these substances. This is good
news for our young people. Society’s
disapproval of these risky behaviors is key to the way teens and young adults
view them. Our hope is that this trend
continues. A wonderful resource
available to you as parents is a site called TalkAboutAlcohol.org. Discover the parenting style that works
against teen drinking and risky behaviors.
The
Mead Community Group was formed and exists solely to help provide information
and resources for alternative activities to give youth and their parents help
in making wise decisions. As we approach
Summer, please join us in these efforts.
Our meetings are open to the community and we welcome and appreciate
your input. Again, this year we have
requested Federal Block Grant funding dollars through Region V Systems in
Lincoln in excess of $8000.00. If
granted these funds will be available through the Mead Community Group as
we partner with the Mead Public Schools,
Mead Public Library, Mead Fire and Rescue, Mead Covenant Church after school
program and Mead Days organizers to help bring programs to our youth and our
community.
The
Mead Community Group would again like to thank all of the students, parents and
community members who completed and returned our latest survey. Your input is invaluable in helping us best
use these resources. Our next event is
the Red White Tailgate Party on Saturday, April 16, 2016. Thirty one student’s grades 6th
through 12th have registered to attend. If your child did not register please check
with Mr. Hickman to see if there are any spots still available.
April 4, 2016
at 7 P. M. meet us in the Mead High School commons for our monthly
meeting. We would love to see you there!
