DOG AND CAT VACCINATION DAY

Mead Community Building
1:30 – 3:00 PM
Green Acre Animal Clinic, Wahoo, will be present to administer pet vaccinations and the Village Clerk will be available to issue dog and cat licenses with proof of rabies vaccination and alteration. Available on the 9th will be vaccinations of rabies, distemper/parvo for dogs and rabies/distemper for cats. Products available to purchase will be Heartgard and Frontline for your pets. Blood tests for heartworm will also be available.
All dogs and cats within the village limits are required to be licensed by May 1. If you have any questions please contact the Village Office at 624-2495.
If you wish to license your pet other than this date, please come to the Village Office during regular office hours. You will be required to furnish proof of current rabies vaccination and alteration of your pet. If you wish to mail the paperwork and money to the office, please mail to Box 46. The tag and paperwork you furnished will be mailed to your address. Cost of the tags are $4.00 for altered dog or cat and $6.00 for intact animals.

WASTEWATER STUDY
The Village of Mead has been awarded a CDBG grant to complete a wastewater study. Cost of the project is $30,000.00, with the village share being $7,700.00.
New wastewater rates will be added to your March 24 billing. The rates are based on average water usage for the months of December, January and February and that unit multiplied by $.75 plus the flat rate.
A Public Hearing of the Board of Trustees was held March 8 at 6:07 p.m. during the Regular Meeting of the Board of Trustees.
Resolution 11-05 was approved to split 66.39 acres of land owned by Advanced Building Components into four lots to be known as Frontier Industrial Park.
The hearing adjourned at 6:19 p.m.

Village of Mead Board of Trustees - March 8, 2011
A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees was held March 8 at 6:00 p.m. Answering roll call were Chair Raver; Trustees Halbmaier, Mayfield, Miller and Wielage. Also present were Clerk Moline, Utility/Maintenance Supt. N. Raver, Police Chief Carlson, Librarian Kuhr and Dumpmaster Ruhe. Guests present were David Nelson, Dale Rawson, Jeannette Johnson, Brenda Halbmaier, Neal Malik, Ed Ruhe, Denise Patocka, Dick Swanson, Linda Brier, Lynette Winter, Shelby Winter and Robert Hartgrave.
SCHEDULED GUESTS:
Neil Malik discussed 11-2010 Conditional Use Permit. J. Johnson and D. Patocka, representing the Library Board, addressed the board regarding the 3/19 Open House & internet service, D. Rawson expressed housing concerns, D. Swanson presented a bill for water line repair that he addressed numerous times over the years, and Ed Ruhe asked that Saturday dump hours be changed & requested a loader for the tractor for use at the dump.
Action was taken to approve payment of $237.50 toward Swanson’s bill from AWS, changed Saturday dump hours to 8:00 am until 12:00 pm, approved Res. 11-06 Loan with the Bank of Mead for $4,500.00 for a generator and wiring at Well #92, Res. 11-07 Special Designated Liquor License to Mapeworth for a graduation party at the Community Building hosted by Lynette Winter on May 14, Res. 11-08 Special Designated Liquor License to Michael Beckman for a wedding reception at the Community Building hosted by Patty Knott on May 21, adopted Ord. 612 on third reading to repeal Special User Fees of Water and Sewer and heard second reading of Ord. 613 to amend Subdivision and Swimming Pools. Bids were considered to tear off and reroof the library. The bid of $5,800.00 was accepted from AC Roofing. A contract for a wastewater study was approved. Discussion was held on replacement of bulbs and setting of lights at the baseball and softball fields. Water / sewer rate study was tabled until the April 12 meeting. A $500.00 savings bond was approved for Police Chief Carlson.
REPORTS:
Utility / Maintenance - The progress of the Water Study was reviewed as well as a request to test several irrigation wells as a possible future site for a well, need to retar streets, mudjack sidewalk outside the village office and work on the ladies restroom and replacing ceiling tiles at the Community Building.
Police - The Monthly Police Report was presented. Discussion was held on stop sign placement and parking along N. First St. and need for crosswalk at Elm Street.
Clerk - Moline reported on future filing of vendor W9’s, water meter maintenance, letters of support of EPA funding for NeRWA, painting the village office areas, State Aid and process taken for unlicensed dogs and cats after May 1.
The Planning Commission minutes from the Febr. 28 Regular Meeting & Hearing and the March 6 Library agenda were reviewed.

VILLAGE OF MEAD RECYCLING

TIN CANS: Rinse and if possible remove labels and smash. No paint, aerosol, rusty or burnt cans.
ALUMINUM: Aluminum cans and foil, rinsed.
PLASTIC MILK JUGS: Remove lids and rinse. It would be helpful if jugs could be cut in half or smashed.
PLASTICS #1 - #5 FOOD/BEVERAGE ONLY:
#1 Polyethylene Terephthalate - Ketchup, Gatorade and Ocean Spray bottles, fizzy drink bottles and oven-ready meal trays (usually clear plastic jugs).
#2 High-density polyethylene - Colored bottles for milk, detergent and soap.
#3 Polyvinyl chloride - Food trays, cling film, bottles for mineral water and shampoo.
#4 Low density polyethylene
#5 Polystyrene -Yogurt pots, hamburger boxes, egg cartons, vending cups, plastic cutlery, protective packaging for electronic goods and toys.
PAPER: All paper must be separated as listed in each category. 1) Newspaper, 2) Mixed Paper (all other types of paper, and 3) Cardboard and Paperboard (flattened and in separate, marked container).
WE DO NOT ACCEPT STYROFOAM CONTAINERS (#6). WE DO NOT ACCEPT AUTOMOTIVE OR CHEMICAL CONTAINERS OF ANY KIND. NO LIDS ARE ACCEPTED.

Mead Dump begins new seasonal hours on April 1st

Tree branches, weeds, leaves and grass clippings are the only items allowed. All items must be unbagged. The dump is open to Mead residents only, at a charge of $2.00 per load.
VILLAGE OF MEAD STORM WARNING PROCEDURES
The Wahoo Sheriff’s office will set off the firemen’s pagers if they receive a watch for this area. The fire siren will go up and down a few times. This is only to alert the fire department to be on the watch. It is also a good idea to keep tuned to a local TV channel / radio station if we are in a watch area.
If a funnel is actually spotted, they will blow a steady blast on the siren. This is your signal to take cover at once. For those residents or businesses without basements, go to the Alma Lutheran Church basement, 219 West 5th Street. A fireman will have the doors open if we are in a storm warning.

Developmental Asset Tip of the Month
Constructive Use of Time – Young people need constructive, enriching opportunities for growth through creative activities, youth programs, congregational involvement, and quality time at home.
Asset #20 – Time at Home – Believe it or not, this is an asset! While sports activities, youth groups, and other creative opportunities are very important, children should have one or two nights each week “with nothing special to do.” Make time at home fun for everyone. Spend time together doing things you all enjoy.
Play favorite games, read, take walks, or go for a family bike ride.
Try to limit TV, electronic games, and computer time.
Honor meal time as “connecting time” and avoid watching TV or standing and eating over the sink.
Take turns letting each individual in your family plan your family together time.
