Tree branches, weeds, leaves and grass clippings are the only items allowed. All items must be unbagged. The dump is open to Mead residents only, at a charge of $2.00 per load.
A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE VILLAGE OF MEAD BOARD OF TRUSTEES WILL BE HELD TUESDAY, APRIL 6, 2010 AT 7:00 P.M. AT THE MEAD COMMUNITY BLDG. THE PURPOSE OF THE MEETING IS TO DISCUSS AND CONSIDER STREET IMPROVEMENTS ON PINE STREET AND FIRST STREET FROM SPRUCE STREET TO CO RD 10.
DOG AND CAT VACCINATION AND LICENSE DAY

Green Acre Animal Clinic, Wahoo will be present to administer pet vaccinations and the Village Clerk will be available to issue dog and cat licenses with proof of rabies vaccination. Vaccinations available are rabies, distemper/parvo for dogs and rabies/distemper for cats. Products available to purchase will be Heartgard and Frontline for your pets.
If you do not attend the license day on April 10th, you may come to the office or send the required paperwork and payment to the office at Box 46 and the Clerk will return the paperwork and license to you. Required is proof of current rabies vaccination and spaying or neutering of the animal. The license cost is $3.00 for altered animals and $5.00 for unaltered animals.
All dogs and cats within the village limits are required to be licensed by May 1. If you have any questions please contact the Village Office at 624-2495.

Steve Mayfield has been appointed to complete the term vacated by Brad Howell on the Village of Mead Board of Trustees. Steve’s term expires December 14, 2010.

VILLAGE OF MEAD BOARD OF TRUSTEES PROCEEDINGS
SPECIAL MEETING - MARCH 1, 2010
The Board of Trustees held a special meeting on March 1 at 5:32 p.m. Present were Trustees Feldhaus, Halbmaier, Raver & Swanson. Also present were Clerk Moline & Police Chief Carlson.
The resignation of Brad Howell was accepted. Raver was elected to serve as Temporary Chair.
The meeting adjourned at 5:40 p.m.
REGULAR MEETING - MARCH 9, 2010
The Board of Trustees met March 9 at 6:00 p.m. Present were Temporary Chair Raver; Trustees Feldhaus, Halbmaier & Swanson. Also present were Clerk Moline, Utilities/Maintenance Supt. Walling & Police Chief Carlson. Guests present were Steve Mayfield, Irvie Hook, Marlene Vogt, Arvid Barr, Jay Spearman, Julie Ogden & Tim Laughlin.
Steve Mayfield was appointed to serve on the Board of Trustees. Mayfield took the Oath of Office. Raver was elected Chairperson.
GUESTS:
Irvie Hook presented a bid to apply hot mix asphalt on First St. from Spruce St. to Co Rd 10.
Street Supt. Julie Ogden prsented proposals to lay concrete or asphalt on First St. from Spruce St. to Co Rd 10 & Pine St. Jay Spearman of Ameritas, discussed financing options. A Special Meeting will be held on April 6 at 7:00 p.m. at the Community Bldg.
REPORTS:
Maintenance/Utility Supt. Walling presented prices for a water fountain at the park & paint striper. It was noted a rope must be purchased for the flag pole at the park. Cutting of the sidewalk along Vine St. at Fifth St. was discussed. Walling was authorized to seek bids for removal, construction & electrical work at the well house.
Police Chief Carlson presented his monthly report & requested “no parking” signs.
Clerk Moline reported NDOR requirements, receipt of $100 scholarship for Clerk Institute & $50 grant for the Easter Egg Hunt from Saunders Co & receipt of Municipal Clerk certification.
Library agenda for the 3/6 meeting was reviewed.
Planning Commission minutes of the 2/22 meeting were reviewed.
NEW BUSINESS:
Action was taken to appoint John Haag as Back up Operator for the wastewater plant, approved Resolution 10-06, LEOP Plan, approved an Interlocal Agreement with the City of Wahoo for mosquito spraying in 2010 & purchase of $50.00 gift certificate for Brad Howell. Police Chief Carlson was presented a $950.00/year wage increase.
Moline reported FEMA funding program for winter storms. No action was taken to approve a Sexual Assault Awareness Month Proclamation and amend the Agreement with the City of Wahoo for wastewater operators.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:47 p.m.

MEAD AREA PRIMETIMER’S
The Mead Area Primetimer’s Club meets every second Thursday of the month at the Mead Covenant Church at 12 PM for potluck and fellowship. Plan to join us for dinner and fellowship on April 8th.
PANERA BREAD will be available to the public on Saturday, April 10. Come to the Alma Lutheran Church basement from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. There is always plenty of bread / rolls to share.

VILLAGE OF MEAD STORM WARNING PROCEDURES
The Wahoo Sheriff’s office will set off the firemen’s pagers if they receive a watch for this area. The fire siren will go up and down a few times. This is only to alert the fire department to be on the watch. It is also a good idea to keep tuned to a local TV channel / radio station if we are in a watch area.
If a funnel is actually spotted, they will blow a steady blast on the siren. This is your signal to take cover at once. For those residents or businesses without basements, go to the Alma Lutheran Church basement, 219 West 5th Street. A fireman will have the doors open if we are in a storm warning.
The Mead Community Group along with area churches are so excited to bring WAIT Training to Mead, Nebraska!
WAIT Training (Why Am I Tempted?) is a national program presented by Shelly Donahue that promotes healthy abstinence. Shelly's message also includes:
*The effects of drugs and alcohol on teen decision making
*Teen character development and healthy relationships
*How to start over
*Assertiveness skills
*Why abstinence is the healthy choice
Shelly will be speaking to the junior and senior high students at Mead on Wednesday, April 14th.
Plan to attend the adult presentation on Tuesday evening, April 13th at 6:30 pm, Mead High School.
Parents, grandparents, youth workers, medical professionals, business leaders, educators, pastors and concerned citizens have an opportunity to hear Shelly's message too.

Spring has sprung, the grass has appeared, I wonder what that white stuff is????
So much for poetry from a former history teacher of mine that had a great sense of humor. Let’s think of summer things to get us thinking warm thoughts.
Bake Sale – May 1st at 8:00 in conjunction with the Mead Garage sales. We would ask residents to help by supplying items for the bake sale (or a donation) and the monies will be used to provide enhanced services at the library.
Summer Reading – due to the absence of Pat Miller I am in need of a volunteer to help in getting a summer reading program started. Please call the library if you are interested. It does not take much time and we are in need of new ideas and parents that will take an interest in seeing that children attend.
Summer Retreat Garden – members Friends/Foundation are working hard to keep this area eye-catching. If you have a “green thumb” (it can be a pale green), we would appreciate any help you can give. We have several areas that need replanting as some plants have died out and others are in the wrong place. Please call the library, or better yet, stop in to look at this area. We could use a small picnic table and some type of seating for stopping and resting on a warm summer day.
Fines and Overdues – patrons who have an e mail address are asked to provide this to the library to better keep patrons advised of materials overdue.
