VILLAGE OF MEAD BOARD OF TRUSTEES
The Village of Mead Board of Trustees met June 10 at the Village Office at 6:00 p.m. Present were Chair Howell, Trustees Raver & Swanson. Absent were Trustees Feldhaus & Mongan. Also present were Clerk Moline, Utility Supt. Brabec & Police Chief Carlson. Guests present were Ray Casey, Andy & Jenny Carritt & Barb Vasa.
The Carritt’s requested guidelines to clear their alley. Barb Vasa discussed the trash removal franchise.
Action was taken to approve Ord. 576 Garbage Franchise Agreement to Quality Disposal, Ord. 577 Garbage Franchise Agreement to Waste Connections & approved second payment to Gen Mech for UV Disinfection Facility. The board approved second reading of Ord. 575 to amend Sections 306 (B1) & 307 (B1) of the Zoning Ordinance. Spencer Dorothy & Sons bid of $9,800.00 to remove asphalt & level dirt on First St. from Co Rd 10 to Spruce St. & Spruce St. from 5th St. to 6th St. was approved. An additional $2,500.00 is estimated to complete this project due to purchase & hauling of rock to the roads. An Interlocal Agreement with the City of Wahoo to spray mosquitoes on an as needed basis at $280.00 per spraying was agreed upon. Reappointed to the Planning Commission were Dennis Berry, Steve Mayfield & Jody Weible. Their terms expire May, 2011.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:40 p.m.
Please remember that all water / sewer payments are due on the 15th. The latest that payment may be made without a late charge is 9:00 a.m. on the 16th. You may deliver the payment to the office, place in drop box by the office front door, deliver to Bank of Mead or mail to Box 46, Mead, NE 68041. If you have an account at the Bank of Mead, sign up at the Village office for automatic withdrawal of your payment on the 15th.
FILING DEADLINE for Village of Mead Board of Trustees for the November 4 General Election: incumbents must file by July 15, 2008 and all other candidates by August 1, 2008.

I hope you had fun at Mead Days and enjoy a safe and “popping” good time on the 4th of July!!
Summer Reading is here!!!. We have had great attendance on Tuesday mornings for our activity sessions. Reminder: keep on reading and filling in your “time” sheets. When you have filled in one sheet, return it to the library for a prize.
We will be weeding materials and they will be put in the front hall of the library for the public. A small donation is welcome to help with the replacement of materials. At the end of each month, the materials will be passed on to other organizations. Stop in and also browse the materials available for checkout.
The two new computers (and other items) will be arriving soon. A notice will be put up at businesses and also in the Wahoo Newspaper when they have been installed and ready for the public. This is a great addition, as we will now have two newer computers for the public to use. One of the older ones will be set up to handle the card catalog. This was possible with a Library Improvement Grant.
We have added numerous titles for your summer reading: Western fiction in large print; three quilting books; Stolen Innocence by Elissa Wall – a story of living in a polygamous sect; Careless in Red by Elizabeth George; Sail by James Patterson; No Time for Goodbye by Inwood Barclay; Little Heathens - about living in Iowa during the depression and many more. The Golden Sower titles were received through the SCLC along with some Christian fiction.
Thanks to the all who helped with the weeding of the flowers and shrubs around the library.

Texas Hold ‘em Tournament had 18 participants and eight places were awarded: 1st place - Dwight Schulz, 2nd place - Brian R ., 3rd place - Karol Osterloh.
The weekend started off with great polka music by Dean Hansen, Karaoke, Beer Pong, Chinese Horseshoes and Fireworks. Saturday began with the Fun Run. Continued activities were Sand Volleyball, Horseshoes, Parade, Kid Games, Donkey Polo, Youth Tractor Pull, Hypnotist and a great Street Dance by Mystic Haze, sponsored by the Mead Volunteer Fire Department. When Sunday rolled around we continued activities with Mud Volleyball, Texas Hold’em Poker Tournament and 60 participants in the Antique Tractor Pull.
Overall the weekend was a huge success for everyone. The Mead Days Committee, Mead Ball Association, Mead Athletic Boosters and Mead Volunteer Fire Department would like to thank everyone for participating. A special thanks to all the volunteers who made this weekend a success. Without your dedication and donations, Mead Days would not be possible. A special thanks to Dale and Marilyn Benal for permitting us to use their property for our Antique Tractor Pull, Roberta and Dan Havelka for their use of the tents, Marvin Hass for delivering sand and Stuart Way for digging the additional sand volleyball court and mud courts.
Thanks again and mark your calendars now for next year’s Mead Days on June 19, 20 and 21!
Have you seen the stickers on the concession stand at the ballfield?
Stickers? What Stickers? - The Mead Community Group is using stickers to spread the word about the organization that is interested in promoting healthy safe behaviors for area youth.
Who can join? - Anyone with an interest in helping to improve our community.
When does the group meet? - 2nd Tuesday of each month, 1:00 pm at the high school over the summer and elementary building during the school year.
