Village of Mead Board of Trustees Meet September 8
A Regular Meeting of the Village of Mead
Board of Trustees was held September 8 at 6:00 p.m. Present were Chairman Guyle; Trustees
Havelka, Nicola, Wielage and Wimer. Also
present were Clerk Moline, Utility/Maintenance Supt. Raver and Police Chief
Carlson.
A Budget Hearing was held at 6:11 p.m.
Action was taken to approve the 10/1/15 through 9/30/16 budget,
additional 1% increase and Resolution 15-20, Final Tax Levy of 32.0229 cents
per one hundred dollars of actual valuation.
The hearing adjourned at 6:21 p.m.
A Public Hearing was held at 6:21 p.m.
Action was taken to adopt Resolution 15-19, Subdivision between Dale J.
Konecky and Dorothy C. Konecky Revocable Trust and Doug Konecky, hereinafter
referred to as Koneckys Subdivision. The
hearing adjourned at 6:24 p.m.
REPORTS: Utility/Maintenance -
Raver reported repair of a waterline at N. Third Circle and plans to continue
to make repairs to improve volume at N. Third Circle and topping of trees at
the park. Police - Carlson
presented the Monthly Police Report and discussed the current status of zoning
and nuisance violations and cats running at large. Planning Commission - The minutes
of the August 24 Regular Meeting and Public Hearing were approved. Library - The August 19 Library Board
Meeting minutes were approved as presented.
Clerk - Moline reported completion of the Community Survey,
scheduled vacation and auditor to complete past fiscal year audit on October 6
and 7. The board reviewed obsolete
equipment to remove from the village insurance policy.
A bid of $120.00 was accepted from Arkfeld Cleaning Services to clean
the village office carpets. Discussion
and agreed to request a public hearing on AltEn’s application with the NE
Department of Environmental Quality to modify their Solid Waste Compost
Facility Permit.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:09 p.m.
RECYCLING AVAILABLE -
If you are interested in recycling, please
contact Waste Connections at 800-279-7511 to arrange for pickup at your
curb. The cost is $10.00 per month, with
pick twice per month. All items can be
intermingled.
Mead Fire / Rescue Department Annual
Halloween Costume Party
Saturday, October 31st
Mead Community Building
The
party begins at 6:00 p.m. with hot dogs and hot chocolate served by members of
the Fire / Rescue Department . Costume
judging for all ages will follow. This
is an annual event sponsored by the Mead Fire / Rescue Department.

own covered drinks for the movie.
Friday, October 9-An
“Oldie but Goodie” movie, Bell, Book and Candle (starring Jimmy Stewart
and Kim Novak) will be shown at 10 am to help get us in the Halloween
spirit. All are Welcome! Coffee and snacks will be served.

are the third Wednesday of each month, except December, and are open to the
public. The next meeting will be October
21 at 6:30pm at the library.

The sidewalk along Vine Street from Third
Street to Fourth Street was recently removed and replaced. Thank you, Bill Thorson, Chad Howell and J.C.
Long for completing the project. Thank
you, Dick Pelster for completion of the street concrete replacement along
Eighth Street. Thank you to all of the
citizens who patronize these businesses that showed patience during completion
of this project.
Mead Community Group
Wow! The first week in September felt like
mid-summer, then overnight it turned to Autumn.
And now back to summer for a few days.
School has started and fall activities are in full swing.
The
Mead Community Group has several things planned that we hope the community will
embrace and enjoy.
A
new and exciting event started September 16 with the Mead Covenant Church van
picking up students at Wahoo High School and other locations for an after-school
study time, with homework help when requested.
Snacks and fun activities will also be offered. This will continue throughout the school year
every Wednesday afternoon.
The
annual “Red Ribbon Week” will be observed October 23rd-31st
with activities at both schools and provide pledge cards at the home volleyball
game on Tuesday, October 27th at 5 PM.
On
Halloween, Saturday, October 31st, the Mead Community Group will
again partner with the Mead Volunteer Fire Department to provide a Trunk-or-Treat
event at the Mead Fire Hall. This will
be held during and after the annual Costume Contest judging. Everyone who participates by bringing a truck or car-trunk with Halloween
decorations will be given candy to pass out and be in a drawing for a Fall-themed
prize. This is an opportunity for rural
residents to have trick-or-treat fun and it also provides a safe place for the
children to enjoy the experience.
We
invite anyone in the community to join us at our monthly meetings. Our sole purpose is to advocate for our young
people, offering information and activities that promote positive choices.
Our next meeting is Tuesday, October 6th
at 7:00 PM in the High School Commons.
