Village
Board of Trustees Meet December 8
The
Village of Mead Board of Trustees met December 8 at 6:00 p.m. at the Village
Office. Present were Trustees Havelka,
Nicola, Wielage and Wimer. Absent was
Chairman Guyle. Also present were Clerk
Moline, Utility/Maintenance Superintendent Raver and Police Chief Carlson. Guests were Ben Day, Craig Reinsch, Ed
Schroeder and Maureen Freeman-Caddy.
Due
to Guyle’s absence, Wimer was elected Chairman Pro Tempore.
SCHEDULED GUESTS: Village
Engineers, Ben Day and Craig Reinsch, presented the Preliminary
Engineering Report of the Water Treatment Evaluation. Village Accountant, Ed Schroeder,
presented the 10/1/14 through 9/30/15 Audit Report. Village Attorney, Maureen Freeman-Caddy,
was present to discuss pending litigation.
The board entered executive session at 7:05 p.m. to discuss pending
litigation. The board returned to
regular session at 7:25 p.m.
REPORTS: Utility/Maintenance Superintendent -
Raver reported tarring of several streets.
Police Chief - The Monthly Police Report was presented. As Nuisance Enforcement Officer, Carlson
recommended a Notice of Nuisance Violation be issued at a residence. Action was taken to adopt Resolution 15-23,
Declared Nuisance at 126 Joyce Circle, Mead.
Planning Commission - The minutes of the October 26 Regular
Meeting and Demolition Permit 15-11 to Russell Petersen to remove a garage were
approved. The board acknowledged the
resignation of Jennie Grasiani from the board and approved Wyatt Swartz as a
member of the board. Library -
The minutes of the September 16 and October 21 Library Board Meetings were
presented. The resignation of Mary
Laughlin as a member of the board was accepted and Jill Leise was approved as a
member of the Library Board. Clerk
- Moline reported consideration of amendment of the Employee Handbook, Village
Post-Christmas Party set for January 10 at G&L Café, required meter
maintenance, deletion of comprehensive/collision insurance coverage on the Ford
truck and Ford crusier and phone reimbursement to Utility/Maintenance
Superintendent.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Wimer
reported a December 3 hearing at the Mead Community Building on AltEn’s request
to amend their Solid Waste Compost Facility Permit.
NEW BUSINESS: Sealed bids for village-owned equipment were
opened. The board adopted Ord. 670, Sale
of 1978 Ford tractor, Bush Hog rotary mower and Bush Hog blade to Jerome
Moline; Ord. 674, Destroy box blade and Christmas wreathes, and approved sale
of sewer jet machine, trencher attachment and scoop attachment at auction. The Saunders Co. Zoning Regulations
pertaining to lewd and lascivious behavior and public nudity were
reviewed. The Park Rental Agreement will
be amended pertaining to the restrooms, recommended $150.00 fee for a
Conditional Use Permit, delinquent water/sewer account was discussed and
complaints/concerns regarding streets and the park were discussed.
The
meeting was adjourned at 8:24 p.m.

MERRY
CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR! The
Village Office will be closed December 25 and January 1. It will also be closed at various times
throughout the Christmas holiday season.
GUIDELINES FOR SNOW REMOVAL
Following
a snowfall of two (2”) inches or more, it shall be unlawful to park or stand
any vehicle on any street within the Village of Mead until the street has been
cleared. 5-311
Any
vehicle parked in violation of any traffic regulations or any vehicle parked so
as to obstruct the free movement of
traffic or to cause a traffic hazard, or any vehicle parked on any street or
alley obstructing the removal of snow may be immediately removed upon order of
the Police Department. 5-304
All
sidewalks within the municipality shall be cleaned within twenty-four (24)
hours after the cessation of the storm 8-201
If
there is snowfall the dump WILL BE CLOSED.
The dump is open the first Saturday of the month ONLY from 8:00 a.m.
until 12:00 p.m., November 1 through March 31.

COLORING
CONTEST:
The
Bank of Mead is sponsoring a coloring contest for kids through grade six. Attached you will find the picture that needs
to be colored and delivered to the Bank of Mead by noon on December 23, 2015
for judging. There will be three age
levels, Preschool, K-3 and 4-6. Prizes
will be awarded.

pick up the coloring sheet at the Bank of Mead or Village office and make sure

Mead Public School’s
winter sport season has started. The Junior High boys began play on November 17 with Cedar Bluffs. The Girls and Boys Varsity Basketball teams
play a pre-season game vs Clarkson-Leigh on November 30. The regular season begins December 4 with all
high school teams playing Johnson County Central. The Junior High girls begin their season
against Cedar Bluffs on January 11. Come
and support these programs. GO MEAD

Community Group – December 2015
It’s
the season for thankfulness and the MCG wants to especially thank those
who made our October events so successful.
During Red Ribbon Week, the annual program for drug-awareness, Marcia
Lamberson and the Elementary School Student Council were very helpful in
spreading the message. During the
Teachers Conference, the MCG tables were visited by a number of people who
signed up for a drawing. The $50 G&L
Café Gift Certificate was won by June Frahm.
We want to thank Alma Lutheran Church for donating candy for
our Trunk or Treat, and the Mead Volunteer Fire Department for allowing
us to use the parking spaces in front of the Fire Hall. A special Fall-themed decoration was won by Denise
Patocka for bringing one of decorated “treat-trunks.” Roxanne and Hannah Schnell, as well as
Kyla Hrdlicka and Lili Brestel from Mead Covenant Church also
helped at Truck or Treat. Lots of work
from everyone involved, but also lots of fun.
THANK YOU ALL!
An
average of eight students have been participating in the after-school tutoring
program which the Mead Covenant Church has partnered with MCG to offer students
from Wahoo and Mead. With transportation
and snacks being provided, we hope to reach even more young people in the
coming year.
With
Christmas just around the corner, most of us are trying to think of the most
perfect gift we could give our children.
Commercials and newspaper ads abound, but what would be perfect, something
they would treasure forever? Of course
they love unwrapping presents but we, as parents, have opportunities to give
them something that will last a lifetime.
How about these:
The gift of creativity – teaching them to play with whatever is
at hand – boxes, paper tubes, duct tape, the list is endless. My son once made a “camera” with a small box
and toilet paper tube that he looked through and then drew his “photo” on a
tablet. He is now a professional videographer.
The gift of discovery – There’s a bald eagle’s nest at Lake
Wanahoo - have our children been there?
There is Fontenelle Forest near Omaha – have we spent a day there
watching leaves change color, looking for animal tracks, just breathing in the
beauty of nature? Even wandering around
our small town we can observe birds and squirrels, tiny oak acorns, small
pinecones, and in the garden, a caterpillar eating up the parsley that will
soon turn into a butterfly. Learning to
see what we look at is truly a gift.
The gift of time – Countless experts have agreed that the greatest
gift we can ever give our children is our time – focused, uninterrupted,
one-on-one time. The most basic need our
children have is to know they are loved, unconditionally and forever, no matter
where they are, what they do, or how old they get.
So
go ahead, wrap up something special, but take the time to give our children the
most priceless gift of all. Have a very
Happy, Merry Christmas!!!
Next
meeting, Tuesday, December 1, 2015 will be at the Mead High School Commons, 7
PM. There will be no meeting in January
2016.
SANTA
CLAUS is coming to town!
Santa
Claus will visit Mead Elementary School at 9:30 a.m. on December 18. Following his school visit, members of the
Mead Fire/Rescue Department will transport him to the Village Office. Arrival time at the office is expected to be
approximately 10:30. Santa’s planned
departure time is 11:00 a.m.
