VILLAGE BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEET


 

The Village of Mead Board of Trustees met April 8 at 6:00 p.m. at the Village Office.  Present were Chairman Guyle; Trustees Havelka, Miller, Wielage and Wimer.  Also present were Clerk Moline, Utility/Maintenance Supt. Raver and Police Chief Carlson.  Guests present were Jody and Kacee Weible.

     A Board of Adjustment Meeting was called at 6:10 p.m.  Answering roll call were Chairman Guyle, Members:  Havelka, Miller, Weible and Wimer.  Resolution 14-08, Variance for Mike Coyle, 614 S. Cedar, to amend Zoning Ordinance 11-306, D. 2. b. for a sideyard depth of 5’ rather than required 7’ depth was approved.  The variance fee was waived.  The meeting adjourned at 6:14 p.m.

     A Public Hearing was called at 6:14 p.m.  Discussion was held on text amendment to Chapter 11, Article 3, Sections 11-306, Single Family Residential and 11-307, Multiple-family Residential with an addition of text.  An application from Mike Coyle for a Conditional Permitted Use for front yard depth for a garage was addressed.  The hearing was adjourned at 6:20 p.m.

     REPORTS:  Utility/Maintenance Supt. - Raver requested two automatic heaters and need for pump repair at the wastewater facility, supply electricity to the lagoon site, reported broken windows at park buildings and receipt of mower.  Police - Chief Carlson reported the monthly police report and removal of a garage and contact with owners of abandoned and unlicensed vehicles.  Clerk - Moline reported attendance at Clerk Academy and shared letter from MAPA.  Library - The minutes of the March 19 Library Board meeting were reviewed.  Planning Commission - The minutes of the March 24 Regular Meeting and Public Hearing were reviewed.

     OLD BUSINESS:  Action was taken to approve third reading and adopt Ord. No.’s 644 and 645, Non-exclusive franchise agreements for garbage services with Quality Disposal and Waste Connection.

     NEW BUSINESS:  Action was taken to approve with waiving of three readings and adoption of Ord. No. 647, amend Chapter 11, Article 3, Sections 11-306 and 307 with the addition of “In existing areas of town where construction was before ordinances there is a condition provision to add onto the dwelling without meeting front yard setbacks if the new addition stays in line with the other residences on that block and Ord. No. 648, Conditional Use Permit to Mike Coyle for front yard depth to construct a garage at 614 S. Cedar St.  The following Resolutions were adopted:  Res. 14-05, Special Tax and Assessment upon Lots 3 and 4, Block 4, Anderson and Carlson’s Addition to Mead for delinquent water fees in the amount of $182.78 and Res. 14-09 Special Designated Liquor License to Michael Beckman for a graduation party at the Community Bldg. on May 17, hosted by Doug and Denise Patocka. 

     A bid of $5,950.00 from Miller Property was approved to seed and fertilizer idle acres at the lagoon site.  The Ballfield Preparation Agreement and Baling Agreement to Miller Property were approved.  Marilyn Jensen will maintain the median at the north entrance into Mead. 

     The board entered Executive Session at 7:47 p.m. to discuss litigation regarding land purchase.  The board returned to Regular Session at 7:55 p.m.  The meeting adjourned at 7:55 p.m.

MEAD ALUMNI BANQUET – MAY 24

 

The Mead Alumni Banquet will be held Saturday, May 24 at the Jr-Sr High Commons.   Banquet tickets are $20.00 if purchased by May 11, $25.00 thereafter.  Tickets can be purchased at the Bank of Mead, Country Store or Konecky Oil.  

 

PET CLINIC A HUGE SUCCESS!

Thank you to all who attended the Dog / Cat Vaccination / License Day on April 4.  We had a great showing of dogs and cats getting their shots and owners obtaining pet licenses.

REMEMBER:  All dogs and cats living within Mead city limits are required to be licensed by MAY 1st.  Purchase the tags at the Village Office.  Cost is $4.00, altered animal and $6.00 for unaltered animal.  Proof of current rabies vaccination must be provided prior to license issue.

Thank you to Angie Siske and her  support group for sponsoring the Annual Easter Egg Hunt held at the park on Saturday, April 12.  A large number of families attended  with many eager hunters and happy finders.

Join us here at the Mead Public Library when our friendly fashionista April will be bringing all the new Spring/Summer styles for us to look at, try on and buy! Clothes coming hot off the racks from Amour Apparel & Accessories in Fremont, NE. No school, sleep in, then join us from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. on Monday April 21st for the Teen/Tween Fashion Party!

Summer is just around the corner...The library is happy to announce that Mrs. Pat Carlson will once again be here at the library to lead our Summer Reading Camp activities!

The "Meet the Author" event was a big success here at the library. Joy Johnson had us all laughing and enjoying the companionship of women. 16 ladies attended the event and a good time was had by all, thanks to everyone for helping to make the afternoon a success. Thank-you to Joy for visiting and thank-you to Carlann Johnson for supplying us with her wonderful cinnamon rolls to go with our coffee.

Graduation exercises for Mead High School will be held Saturday, May 17 in the school gymnasium.  Baccalaureate begins at 1:30, with Commencement to follow at 2:00.

The Village Board & Planning Commission meet at the Village Office, Library Board at the Library and Fire & Rescue at the Fire Station.

 

The Mead Days Committee is looking for donations for Bingo or cash donations.  Donations can be dropped off at the Bank of Mead and made payable to Mead Days 2014.  All proceeds from the weekend go to the youth programs, Fire Department or back into the community for improvements.  The following businesses or individuals have already contributed to 2014 Mead Days and we want to say THANK YOU!

Well over 100 kids joined in the Mead Community Easter Egg Hunt.  A big thank you to the Village of Mead, Bank of Mead, Mead Volunteer Fire Dept., Charles’ Surveying, Todd Valley Farms, Friends of the Mead Library, Mrs. Weiss, Wahoo Civic Center, Mead High School students, and many other individuals from the Mead community for donating money, candy, prizes, and time towards the event for our children in the community!

 

VILLAGE OF MEAD CLEAN-UP DAY

9:00 A.M. - 12:00 P.M.

(downtown in front of Village Office)

           

Items not accepted are wood, grass clippings, construction refuse and tree limbs.

There will be a fee charged for disposal of tires.

The event is open to MEAD RESIDENTS ONLY! 

Resident identification will be checked by Board of Trustees.

 

RELAY FOR LIFE FUNDRAISER

Mead Park

11:30 am - 5:00 pm

This is a fundraiser for Relay for Life.  Activities include bounce house, games and food.  For additional information, contact Roberta Havelka at 402-624-2278.  Come and support the cause!
