Mead
Community Group Healthy Family Tip of the Month
It’s October and that means Halloween for most families with young children. Kids love Halloween, it means getting to get dressed up and get free candy. By going over some simple safety tips with your children you can help insure they make great Halloween memories. Here are some “common sense” tips to help get your conversations started:
* Never, ever go into a stranger’s house or
even ring their door for treats unless your parents are with you and say it’s
okay. There are some people in life that
aren’t very nice to kids, and you have to be careful.
* Always look both ways when you cross the
street. If you are with your little
brother or sister, take their hand and help them get across too. Carry a flashlight after dark.
* If you are an older kid and are going out
with friends, make sure that your parents know where you are going and who you
are with. Stay together.
* Have parents look over candy before you eat
any of it.

PUBLIC LIBRARY NEWS by Nancy Black, Library
Director
We've had a very busy month at the Mead Public Library. We have begun using the Kindle Fires for an interactive story time on Tuesdays after school. We are all having fun learning together reading books on the Kindle and playing educational games after the story. Join us Tuesdays 4:00 - 4:30.
August 29th we welcomed Charlotte Endorf to the library for a theatrical historical presentation on the NE Orphan Train. More than 30 guests attended the presentation at the library. It was informative and interesting. This program was made possible through a grant from the NE Humanities Council.
In October we will be sponsoring a "Food for Fines" program here at Mead Public Library. One food item donated to the "Backpack Food Program" will equal $1.00 off any fines that are owed to the library. Join us in supporting a great local program and get rid of those pesky fines at the same time.
The Mead Public Library received a donation from the Blair Public Library courtesy of Rosa Schmidt at the Oakland Public Library of 22 DVD's and 8 Audio Books on CD, stop in and check them out.
