Green Acre Animal Clinic, Wahoo will be present to administer pet vaccinations and the Village Clerk will be available to issue dog and cat licenses with proof of rabies vaccination.  Available on the 6th will be vaccinations of rabies, distemper/parvo for dogs and rabies/distemper for cats.  Products available to purchase will be Heartgard and Frontline for your pets.  Blood tests for heartworm will also be available.  Cost to license your pet is $4.00 altered, $6.00 intact.

All dogs and cats within the village limits are required to be licensed by May 1.  If you have any questions please contact the Village Office at 624-2495.

 COMPLETION OF THE CROSS CONNECTIONS SURVEY REQUIRED

Surveys for the Water System regarding Cross Connection Reporting were mailed to individual residents and businesses in their February water / sewer bills.

 

State law requires consumers of public water supplies to inspect their facilities not less than once every five years.  Please complete and return the forms within 30 days.   Please include your name so we know yours has been returned.  All forms are required to be returned.  Failure to complete and return the forms puts the Village of Mead water system in violation of State Health Department Regulation Title 179.

Tree branches, weeds, leaves and grass clippings are the only items allowed.  All items must be unbagged.  The dump is open to Mead residents only, at a charge of $2.00 per load.

 

WANTED:  Part-time Library Director for the Village of Mead.  Applications may be obtained from the Mead Village Office, 402-624-2495, Box 46, Mead, NE 68041 or meadclerk1@hotmail.  Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.

 

VILLAGE OF MEAD BOARD OF TRUSTEES BOARD MEETING MINUTES

     A Regular Meeting of the Village of Mead Board of Trustees was held Febr. 12 at 6:00 p.m.  Chairman Mayfield called the meeting to order.  Answering roll call were Chairman Mayfield; Trustees Guyle, Miller, Wielage and Wimer.  Also present were Clerk Moline, Utility/Maintenance Supt. Raver and Police Chief Carlson.  Guests were Shawn Nelson, Debra Johnson, Steve Kadavy, Ben Day, Jeannette Johnson, Eric Gottschalk, Bill Blake and Burneil and Mark Ecklund.

     A Public Hearing was held at 6:05 p.m. to review the One Year and Six Year Street Improvement Plan.  Following discussion and call for public input, Resolution 13-02, One and Six Year Street Improvement Plan was adopted.  The hearing was adjourned at 6:12 p.m.  
     SCHEDULED GUESTS:  Shawn Nelson addressed the board in regard to the vacant house and garage he owns.  Conditions for improvements were presented.
     Steve Kadavy, Frontier Co-op, reported planned extension of the railroad track east of Co Rd 10 to ease railcar loading.  Plans call for removing the tree line and cleaning the ditch south of the tracks.   Permission was granted to dispose of the trees at the dump site. 
     Ben Day, Olsson Assoc., presented an update on the proposed site for the retention lagoons.
     Burneil and Mark Ecklund and their attorney, Bill Blake, presented reasons why the board should look at a different site for the lagoons or consider remodeling the current mechanical plant.
     Eric Gottschalk, NRD, provided information regarding the irrigated acres the current owner would lose where the retention lagoons would be constructed.
     POLICE REPORT:  The monthly report was presented, with specific incidents noted.
     UTILITY/MAINTENANCE REPORT:  Raver reported on future lease or purchase of a skidloader, water tests required by HHS and was instructed to investigate the costs of a tar machine and tar to blow and seal the streets and permission granted to purchase a Water Level Indicator.
     CLERK REPORT:  Moline reported receipt of a scholarship toward Clerk Institute, NE Legislature consideration of wastewater grants and upcoming events.  Discussion was held on outstanding bills. 
     LIBRARY REPORT:  The minutes of the January 16 and February 6 Library Board meetings were reviewed.  Misty Coyle was approved as a member of the Library Board.  Kuhr’s resignation as Library Director was noted.  Library Board member, Jeannette Johnson, expressed concerns:  snow removal, replacement of library ceiling tiles and mulch.  Raver is to contact a firm to inspect the former ceiling in the library.
     PLANNING COMMISSION REPORT:  The minutes of the January 28 Regular Meeting and Building Permits were approved:  13-01 Mead Public Schools-bus barn addition; 13-02 Freddie Mac-remove deck; 13-03 Freddie Mac-construct deck; 13-04 Steve Kadavy-basement addition.  The board approved permit 13-01 Mead Public Schools for a bus barn addition.
     The following action was taken:  write off a delinquent water/sewer bill; approved the purchase of 46 acres at the proposed site for a retention lagoon; Resolution 13-04 Interlocal Cooperation Agreement for a Mutual Finance Organization; waive three readings and adopted Ord. No. 632, Utilities Generally; Discontinuance of Service; Notice Procedure; approved first reading of Ord. 633 and Ord. 634 Garbage Collection Franchises to Quality Disposal and Waste Connections.
     The village will advertise for a custodian, concerns of vacated houses being used as storage facilities was discussed and Marilyn Jensen has volunteered to maintain the island at the north entrance into Mead this summer.
     The meeting was adjourned at 7:55 p.m.

 Mead Community Group Healthy Family Tip of the Month

 

Building Family Assets at Home

 

Family Assets are the everyday things families do to be strong, even in challenging times.  They are the actions we take to build healthy relationships and healthy family members.  Every member of the family plays an important role in building these assets.  The next couple months will feature ideas on how you can enhance some of the assets in your home.

 

Nurturing Relationships within family members helps make for a stronger family.  People in healthy relationships communicate openly, show affection, and support each other.  Here are a few ideas to put this into action:

 

            *Show family members that you care in little ways – find a new, small but visible thing you can do to show others in your family that you care.  i.e.  a note on the bathroom mirror, or packed in a school lunch.

            *Keep the focus on the relationships – sometimes family members will do things you don't like, stress you out, or make you unhappy.  While you need to confront the problem, make it a priority to maintain the relationship.

 

            *Talk about the everyday stuff EVERY day – Don't wait for “important” conversations to have good conversations with other family members.  Find times to talk together every day.  Ask questions like, “What was the best question you asked today?” or  “What were the high and low points of your day?” 

 

            *Ask other family members about the things they really enjoy, or their Sparks – they might be music, cooking, acting, sports, or being a good friend.  Ask them to teach you about their sparks.  Show them that their sparks matter to you because they matter to them.

NOTE TO SEWER USERS:

Your March billing for water and sewer will reflect the usage rate you will be charged for sewer for the next year.  To arrive at your sewer usage, the water you used in the months of December, January and February is averaged.  The rate is computed at $1.00 per thousand gallons of water used.  The flat fee of $20.00 is also charged to your account for sewer usage.
 

MEAD EASTER EGG HUNT

The Annual Mead Easter Egg Hunt is scheduled for Saturday, March 23 at the Mead Park.  Watch for posters detailing the time and age groups.  For questions or to donate contact Denise Patocka at 402-443-6684.
